‘Young Wallander’ Season 3: Everything We Know So Far

Young Wallander is the Netflix crime drama series based on Henning Mankell‘s fictional Inspector Kurt Wallander. It follows the story of a young, edgy, and modern Wallander as he investigates his gripping first case. The story focuses on the formative experiences – professional and personal – faced by Kurt as a recently graduated police officer in his early twenties.

The decision to make the series a modern adaptation of the iconic detective instead of making it a prequel was because it allowed for social commentary that was a strong element of Mankell’s original Wallander and is still as relevant.

The first season premiered in September 2020 and was renewed for another season that premiered on February 17, 2022. The second season was titled Killer’s Shadow. The series got mixed reviews. As for the future of the show, here’s what you need to know:

Will There Be A Third Season Of Young Wallander?

Netflix has officially canceled Young Wallander and they have no plans to bring the show back for a third season. The show’s viewing figures did not impress Netflix. The show’s second season only managed to break into the top ten list in the US for three days before dropping out. It managed to stay a lot longer in the top ten list in the UK with 10 days before dropping out. These aren’t very promising statistics which indicates that the show did not perform very well in English-Language countries.

The show, however, performed well in some Nordic regions such as Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. It also performed well in some central European countries such as Germany, Austria, and The Netherlands.

What Could Have Been The Plot Of Young Wallander Season 3?

In the second season, Wallander gets a chance to re-join the Major Crimes Unit and is assigned to what seems a simple hit-and-run case. It is then found that the victim is actually related to a murder case that is eight years old. This case was handled by Frida Rask and Wallander suspects something fishy and starts investigating. He manages to find that it is in fact a murder and catches the murderer. In the end, the second season came to a perfect end with no cliffhangers or unanswered questions. So if there was going to be a new season it would be a fresh start based on the dozen works of Mankell novels.

Who Could Have Been In The Cast Of Young Wallander Season 3?

Adam Pålsson as Kurt Wallander would have most likely reprised his role. We could have also expected to see Leanne Best as Frida Rask, Ellise Chappell as Mona, Yasen Atour as Reza Al-Rahman, and Tomiwa Edun as Samuel Osei.
