'Yes Day,' is a heartwarming Netflix comedy film that's perfect to stream with the whole family. The movie is adapted from the children's book of the same name by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld. It follows the adventures of the Torres family, who goes on a 'Yes Day,' a designated day where the parents can only say yes to their children. What started as a sound solution to resolve familial conflict took a messy turn, which eventually (thankfully) brought the family closer. The film stars Jennifer Garner, Édgar Ramírez, and Jenna Ortega. The family comedy film was released on Netflix in mid-March 2021, with the ending dialogue teasing a possible sequel. So is the sequel happening? Here is everything we know.
Yes. Netflix has greenlighted 'Yes Day' 2 in January 2021 as part of a new multi-picture film.
“I first worked with Jen on The Kingdom 15 years ago and consider myself very lucky to still be in business with her today,” said Netflix’s Head of Global Film, Scott Stuber, via Deadline.
“As an actor, she’s proven herself to be incredibly versatile in unforgettable roles spanning fast-paced action, heartfelt comedies, and thought-provoking dramas. She approaches every aspect of her work with such detail and preparation, which makes her an extremely valuable partner and producer. We look forward to celebrating another YES DAY with Jen and collaborating on many other exciting projects.”
The family film has proven to be a trending hit after successfully entering the top 10 in numerous territories. In the US, 'Yes Day' immediately shot to the number 1 spot within 24 hours of its release on the platform. The film also managed to infiltrate the top 10 lists in different countries across the globe.
The sequel is still in development. The first film premiered on Netflix on March 12, 2021. If we are lucky, we might see a sequel in 2 to 3 years after that.
The first film sees Allison, who struggles after knowing that her children think of her as a dictator because she only says no to all their requests. A football coach who heard of her and her husband discussing their predicament suggested trying to have a Yes Day, a special day where they say yes to their kids for 24 hours. Soon enough, the parents find themselves donning crazy outfits, ordering a massive $40 sundae, then going through a car wash with the windows down. The first movie rounded up the overarching plot pretty well for the Torres family. The family was able to fix the mess in their 'Yes Day' antics, including the massive foam explosion brought by Nando's nerd party. Despite a few things getting out of hand, Yes Day managed to bring the Torres family closer. Before the film ended, Allison says that she's looking forward to the "next" Yes Day, while Carlos takes a more strict approach with the children. This suggests that if a sequel happens, it will feature another crazy Yes Day adventure for the Torres family. Allison will likely evolve past her 'dictator' ways, and the children could be even closer to her.
