‘Yellowstone’ Season 5: Will Someone Die? Is Q’orianka Kilcher Returning?

The cast dishes on what we can expect from season 5

After leaving us hanging on the cliff with its season 4 finale, Yellowstone is hitting back the streamer with season 5 on Sunday, November 13.

We had talked about the coming of Yellowstone season 5 earlier which mentioned the ever-present rumors of John dying, to which Costner said, "I don’t want to die… just too much to do. In terms of this story, I don’t know where that’s gonna go… I haven’t really thought about it." He also stated "I think that [show creator Taylor Sheridan]'s been writing a really high level. I’ll say when I don’t want to do it anymore."

With further updates, the cast and co-creator Taylor Sheridan spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the new season, and Sheridan made a particularly interesting statement, revealing, “if you look at everyone as a chess piece in Season 5, it is impossible to keep playing the game without taking chess pieces off the board.”

Cole Hauser, who plays Rip, called the first two episodes of the new season “fantastic,” and Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth, said, “the problem is how do we top it every year, right? The fierceness is legitimately ramping up.” Meanwhile, Kevin Costner (who plays Dutton patriarch John) pointed out, “You gotta kinda keep your foot on the gas. If it doesn’t surprise you then it’s very unlikely that it will surprise an audience.” (It was also revealed that Costner is the highest paid actor on TV, reportedly making $1.3 million for each episode.)

And when asked if he could see his adopted son Jamie (played by Wes Bentley) falling into good graces with his character this season, Costner noted that such warmth wouldn’t work for this series: “Probably the show would end. My dysfunctional family really disturbs me.” Plus, Beth did just give John the ammunition he needs against Jamie.

And there's also an old member who is back to the cast. Actress Q'orianka Kilcher will be returning to season five of the Paramount+ show, resuming her role as Angela Blue Thunder, according to Deadline. This past July, the California Department of Insurance released a statement, stating the actress had been charged with two felony counts of workers' compensation insurance fraud. They wrote, "Kilcher allegedly broke the law in collecting over $90,000 in disability benefits."

The statement reveals that while filming "Dora and the Lost City of Gold," alongside actors Eva Longoria and Michael Peña, "Kilcher allegedly injured her neck and right shoulder. She saw a doctor a few times that year, but stopped treatment and did not respond to the insurance company handling her claim on behalf of her employer. A year later, in October 2019, Kilcher contacted the insurance company saying she needed treatment. Kilcher told the doctor handling her claim that she had been offered work since her injury occurred but had been unable to accept it because her neck pain was too severe. Based on Kilcher's statements to the doctor, she began receiving temporary total disability benefits."

The show recently released a teaser for season five and it won’t be the normal 10-episode run fans have come to expect. The Paramount Network series is back for an extended Season 5, with 14 episodes to enjoy.
