‘Yasuke’ is a brand new anime series developed by ‘Cannon Busters’ creator LeSean Thomas, in collaboration with Grammy Award-nominated artist Flying Lotus and Academy Award-nominated LaKeith Stanfield. The anime landed on Netflix on April 29, 2021, and was met with a warm reception from viewers across the globe.
‘Yasuke‘ follows the journey of an eponymous African man, who went from being in the service of Jesuit missionaries during the Nanban trade to being a fighter & retainer in the service of Lord Oda Nobunaga.

Will There Be ‘Yasuke’ Season 2?
The anime series might not be renewed for season 2 yet, but based on the anime’s performance on the platform, the renewal should be here any time soon. The series managed to land in the top 10 on numerous territories. Most anime that performs well on the platform usually gets renewed unless they are originally planned as a limited series. Animes are easier and faster to produce than live-action.
Composer and executive producer behind Yasuke, Flying Lotus has also teased about the potential future of the series, saying:
“We hope these six episodes would serve as an introduction to this world and get you hype for more. We have big plans for Yasuke. It’s just the beginning.”
The show’s director and producer, LeSean Thomas, has also expressed a similar sentiment about season 2.
“I can’t say too much, but the response has been really great, and it would be great to become more than what it is. I’m just really excited for the fans digging into this, and then we’ll see. Obviously, it would be great to have a big splash and then keep things going,” Thomas said via Comicbook.
Our best guess is that the renewal for the anime will come in the next few weeks or months. Once that happens, we will immediately update this article.
What Is The Possible Plot Of ‘Yasuke’ Season 2?
In the final episodes of the series, Yasuke fought against Daimyo’s cavalry, led by his nemesis Mitsuhide, also known as The Dark General. Throughout the season, several alliances were formed, including Morisuke’s guidance to Saki on the astral plane and the support of Yasuke from Abraham’s former bounty hunters.
Sadly, there were also some deaths. Ishikawa and Nikita were killed in the battle. In the showdown with Daimyo, Saki learned how to harness the power of life. Although she successfully killed Daimyo, when she approached Yasuke to celebrate, she discovered he had also died. However, Saki’s tears and powers brought Yasuke back to life, allowing him to be reborn.
In the post-credit scene, Yasuke let go of his past and visited the grave of his friend Natsumaru. He also handed over Natsumaru’s sword to her brother. The first season of the anime wrapped up the plot nicely, setting the stage for a new adventure for Yasuke in the second season.
When Will ‘Yasuke’ Season 2 Release?
We are still waiting for the anime’s renewal, but our safest bet is that it will release sometime in early 2025.
