The best add-on to the Halloween watch list this year was Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, serving some good variety of horror, the 8 chapter series was well received by the audience and critics. But, most importantly is Netflix renewing Cabinet of Curiosities for a second season?

Has Netflix renewed 'Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities'

As of Nov. 1st, 2022, Netflix has not yet renewed Cabinet of Curiosities for a second season. However, the streamer typically takes time before announcing season renewals of shows.

If Netflix was judging their decision to renew shows solely based on critical reviews alone, Cabinet of Curiosities would've been renewed, like, yesterday. The horror anthology series currently holds a 91% rating on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 33 critics' ratings).

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix has not green-lit a sequel. However, there’s a very good case for another season to follow.

If this is renewed, expect even more terrifying and spine-chilling tales to follow, with Guillermo Del Toro lending his voice to introducing each chapter. It’s the perfect anthology to shine a spotlight on different Directors too and given how creative the horror field is, Cabinet of Curiosities feels like a great platform to showcase that.

Should Netflix renew the Cabinet of Curiosities?

Cabinet of Curiosities would have been a successful limited series if it had been an anthology. But given the popularity of the animated anthology series Love, Death, and Robots, we shouldn't be shocked that Netflix decided against limiting the show's potential by canceling it after just one season. This left the door open for the Cabinet of Curiosities to be renewed since it was not listed as a limited series.

However, because the series is an anthology, if Netflix decided not to renew, they could quietly lock that door without much issue. Should Netflix, however, re-up? Definitely. The subjective nature of which episodes subscribers preferred above others adds to the enjoyment of an anthology. There are thousands, if not tens of thousands of short horror stories that could be adapted, which leaves Guillermo del Toro and his chosen directors spoilt for choice.
