Who Killed Sara? or ¿Quién Mató a Sara? is a Mexican mystery thriller series created by José Ignacio Valenzuela (Santa Diabla) for Netflix. The series tells the story of Álex Guzmán, a man who is convicted for the murder of his sister, a crime that he did not commit. He then sets off to exact revenge and find out who actually killed his sister.
The first season of the show premiered on 24 March 2021. It was well received and was even renewed for a second season that premiered on 19 May 2021, two months after the release of the first one. At the end of the second season, it was revealed that the show would return for another season. The third season premiered on May 18, 2022. As for what’s in store for the future of the show, here’s what you need to know: (Spoilers ahead!)
Will There Be Season 4 Of Who Killed Sara?
The first two seasons of the show followed Alex as he went after the people who he thought had killed his sister. But along the way, he finds contradictory evidence as to why the people he had narrowed down on would not have killed his sister. In the second season, the show delved into Sara’s secret past. The progression of the show even raises the question of whether Sara was even really dead.
Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger after Nicandro reveals during a phone call that “it was really us” who had killed Sara. In the third season, we get to see the “us” Nicandro was referring to. In the end, we see what actually happened to Sara and that it was not an accidental death. The end reveals that Sara was abducted and taken to The Medusa Project where she was tortured with abusive experiments to “treat” her schizophrenia. She ends up stabbing herself to escape the pain of the torture. And we realize that it was Medusa that had driven Sara to take her own life.
After the third season premiered, Netflix sent out a tweet, stating that this would be the final season of the show. A lot of twists, turns, and unexpected developments later, we do arrive at the answer to who actually killed Sara. It is a pretty conclusive ending to the show and the objective Alex had in mind at the outset. The favorable reviews of the show also saw a dip after the initial build-up. It had become one of the most popular non-English language titles ever at the time of its premiere. It was best to conclude the show this way and it is safe to say that it will not be coming back for Season 4.
As for Valenzuela, he has signed a three-year deal with Netflix. “I am committed to telling stories that will continue to excite fans in Latin America and across the world just like Who Killed Sara? did,” he stated, “where nothing is what it seems.”
