When They See Us Season 2 Everything We Know So Far

After becoming one of Netflix’s most-watched series ever since it premiered on May 31, 2019, ‘When They See Us’ has undoubtedly become everyone’s favorite. Ava DuVernay creates the American drama television series, and she is also the one who directs all the episodes. Ava is pretty famous for her previous works which include some hard-hitting films and documentaries. Ava is critical and has a significant voice for things that happen in society, and being aware of major issues, she has put the subject matter into ‘When They See Us,’ and it came out beautifully.

The show revolves around the famous case from the 1980s that is known as the Central Park jogger. In this case, the jogger was raped and brutally beaten by the accused, and the accusers were labeled as the Central Park Five. Going with The New York Times, this case was one of the most widely publicized crimes of the 1980s. The rapists were African Americans and one Hispanic. The series showcases their wrongful conviction, jail, imprisonment, release, and subsequent settlement that they won after suing New York City.

This show’s executive producers are Ava DuVernay, Jeff Skoll, Jonathan King, Oprah Winfrey, Jane Rosenthal, and Berry Welsh, and the shooting is taken in New York City, particularly on Madison Avenue, which is the East Harlem area of Manhattan. The show is gripping, and fans want to see what’s next, as they want this show to go on. However, since it is based on a real incident, the question is, will it return for the second season?

Will There Be A Second Season Of ‘When They See Us’?

Frankly, the show is a mini-series and will not be receiving a second season because the first season had four episodes that covered and showcased almost everything. The story of the Central Park Five is known to the entire world, including millions of Netflix users. But could the series become an Anthology?

Those who have watched the first season would know that the way the series highlighted the injustices carried out against the young African-American men was incredible. Unfortunately, this is not the first case in America’s history that such injustices have taken place, leaving hope for the fans that the series might get an anthology-like shape focusing on stories and cases that are somehow similar to that of the Central Park Five.

Does The Story Have A Strong Message For The Viewers?

Well, yes, of course. The fact that it covers and shows one of the most controversial criminal cases, there’s a lot to deduce from the series and to know all the kinds of injustice and struggles the victim and convicts went through. “In 1989, five black and brown teen boys were wrongly accused of a crime they did not commit and branded The Central Park Five, a moniker that has followed them since that time,” DuVernay said in a statement from Netflix, which was obtained by Bustle. “In 2019, our series gives the five men a platform to finally raise their voices and tell their full stories. In doing so, Korey, Antron, Raymond, Kevin, and Yusef also tell the story of many young people of color unjustly ensnared in the criminal justice system.”

The show also showed so much sensitive and disturbing content that Netflix had to provide crisis counselors for the cast. “At the end of the day, there was a number you could call, and somebody could talk to you because the material was so heavy,” Niecy Nash, who played the role of Korey’s mother, Dolores Wise, in the series told The Hollywood Reporter during a recent interview. She added, “And there were often times that the real boys… would be on set because it’s their story being told. I’d get off that set and be like, ‘I’m not going to make it. Bring the funny back!’ But you feel so driven to tell the story, so you muscle through because that has to be more important than how you feel.” Therefore, through this series, these boys got a voice and platform to tell the world and explain things that they went through and what the world didn’t know of.
