Heavy Spoilers Ahead, Tread Carefully...

One of the most anticipated spin-offs of the year is finally here; if you haven't had the chance to catch the show, this is the second reminder from our side to stop reading this article right here right now, but make sure to come back as there are lots to talk about the Addam's Family spin-off Wednesday. The show finally revealed the 30-year-old murder mystery, but don't worry, there is more space for conflict that can result in more seasons; for more details on the upcoming season, read the spoiler-free article that is up on the site already. The show follows the family's eldest daughter Wednesday portrayed by Jenna Ortega, who's sent to Nevermore Academy, a school for supernatural outcasts. Apart from Jenna's deadpan portrayal of the character Wednesday, here are other things we absolutely adore about the show.

What's The Plot of Wednesday?

The show starts with Wednesday being expelled from her high school on the grounds of attempted murder; she tried to kill her brother's bullies by throwing live piranhas in their pool. She is then sent to her parent's old school, Nevermore Academy, a place made for outcasts. She meets her new roommate Enid who shows her around the school, introducing her to all the cliques. Wednesday soon befriends Tyler, who is the sheriff's son and asks him to help her escape the school. The Universe of the kooky and spooky of Nevermore Academy is longstanding and quite weird, to be honest. Anyway, back to the story, we soon see the friendship develop into a love interest, only for us to find out that maybe Tyler is the local killer everyone's looking for. Wednesday, in her plan to ruin, the killer gets expelled from Nevermore but later finds out that Tyler is not the mastermind behind the killings. Wednesday then visits her bug-loving friend Eugene who is admitted to the hospital after an attack. He reveals that he witnessed someone wearing red boots, which connects the dots for Wednesday. The culprit is then revealed to be Marilyn Thornhill. Wednesday could now see through her ruse and learned that her real name is Laurel Gates, and she was planning her revenge against the Addams Family for years now.

30-second Review...

With the predecessor focusing on all the members of the Addams Family, Wednesday shines the spotlight on the eldest child of the family. For the most part, Jenna Ortega supports the show all alone and does a great job with her deadpan expressing oozing with mystery. The show successfully manages to lure Addams Family enthusiasts into the world while keeping the show gripping for new viewers.

Who and What was the Monster?

With the help of a quick visit from her beloved Uncle Fester, Wednesday quickly realizes the killer creature on the loose was Hyde, a very dangerous outcast who looks fine and sweet-natured but harbors a dark side that can transform on command once it's unlocked. Further research unveils that Hyde was Zavier, and with evidence, she gets him arrested for the murder of 6 "normies." We soon find out that Wednesday fails to catch the culprit, and it's actually Tyler, her love interest and also the right-hand man in the whole search. She then finds out that Tyler's mother was not just any outsider, but she attended Nevermore Academy alongside Wednesday's mother and Principal Weems. Wednesday then decides to get Tyler to confess only in her way of interrogation; well, let's just say it was literally torturing the life out of Tyler. She soon realizes that Tyler may be the murderer, but someone else had unlocked the hyde. After several wrong guesses, she finally realizes that it was actually Marilyn Thornhill who was the only "normie" teacher working at Nevermore and who had taken a keen interest in Wednesday's progress. She then takes the help of principal Weems who shapeshift into Tyler to convince Thornhill that he had fallen out of her spell. But Thornhill is a little too clever and injects Weems with a deadly agent nightshade that kills her instantly. She then abducts Wednesday and takes her to Crackstone Crypt with Tyler. But, all's well that ends well, Wednesday successfully stops Laurel (Thornhill) and Tyler with the help of her friends, and she is finally reunited with her best friend in the process. With Thornhill in the group, Eugene encourages Wednesday to take her to the Sheriff, but Wednesday is done with her and curb stomps her, presumably killing her. We cannot wait to see what happens next; with Tyler's master now dead, he has an uncontrollable Hyde without someone directing his actions. This could mean that his Hyde can simply be unlocked again to destroy Wednesday, the ending saw him chained up and taken away, but it also hints at his return, keeping a lot of burning questions open for the upcoming seasons to answer. Season 1 also leaves off with a new mystery, as Wednesday receives a text from an anonymous contact on her brand-new phone. The stalker sends her two pictures, one of Tyler giving her coffee on her birthday and the other one of Xavier giving her the phone. Then a text pops on her screen reading " I'm watching you with a GIF of knives stabbing an animated Wednesday. Season 2 is yet to be announced, but we can't wait to find out what happens to Tyler and Who's the Stalker?
