Jack and Mel's romance gets another chance with Virgin River season 2 officially confirmed.
Virgin River is one of those lighthearted shows which deeply resonates with those who want to leave the messy city life and find pure joy in a serene, small town.
Based on Robyn Carr's novel of the same name, the show tells the story of a nurse practitioner who runs to a remote California town of Virgin River to start fresh and escape painful memories.
The romantic series released last year on Netflix, and fans are wondering if they will continue to see more of Mel and Jack's love story.
Let's dive deep and explore all the essential information about the show.
It's a big YES! Virgin River has been officially confirmed for season 2! What's more exciting is that they've already finished filming for the entire season way ahead of the Coronavirus pandemic. Filming began on September 9, 2019, and ended on December 17, 2019. Filming took place in Vancouver in Canada although the film is set in rural California.
There is no exact release date yet for the second season, however, we are guessing it will arrive on Netflix a few days before Christmas this year, just like the first season.
There are also speculations that the show might arrive earlier as the filming for season 2 finished three months earlier compared to season 1. Season one finished filming in March 2019 and released in December 2019.
The show's official Instagram page has been bombarded by queries about when season 2 will exactly premiere. However, they are only providing fans with a broad release date of 2020.
We can expect to see major cast members reprising their roles. Alexandra Breckenridge is returning as Melinda "Mel" Monroe, together with Martin Henderson as her love interest Jack Sheridan.
Other cast members who will reprise their roles are Jenny Cooper as Joey Barnes (Mel's older sister), Grayson Maxwell Gurnsey as Ricky (the young guy who works at Jack's bar), Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dan Brady, and Colin Lawrence as John "Preacher" Middleton.
We will also see new faces for the second season. Netflix announced the following characters to join Virgin River season 2:
Carmel Amit as Jamie, Keith MacKechnie as Nick, Donald Heng as George, Steve Bacic as Wes, Lane Edwards as Sheriff Duncan, and Thomas Nicholson as Leo Cavangh. Marco Grazzini, Melinda Dahl, and Sarah Dugdale are also recently confirmed to join the cast.
With all these new faces, we're surely rooting for a fabulous follow-up season.
We are expecting to see Mel and Jack resolve the conflicts surrounding their romance. In season 1, we saw how Charmaine obsesses with Jack despite him not taking her seriously. Towards the finale of the first season, Mel found out about Charmaine's pregnancy and was greatly devastated. She packed her clothes and told her sister she's coming back home.
We are also hoping to see Jack and Mel fix their traumas. Mel carries the burden of losing her child and husband in the past, while Jack suffers from PTSD after leaving the U.S. Marine.
Sadly, there is no official trailer yet. We're expecting it will arrive very soon though.
