The Fast & Furious franchise has been going strong for two decades. A memorable part of the movies is how much Dominic "Dom" Toretto (Vin Diesel) emphasizes the importance of family, so much so that it has even become a meme associated with Diesel's character. But this onscreen bond has extended into real life as the actors and their families have forged a close relationship as well.

In October, Diesel stood in for his late Fast & Furious co-star, Paul Walker, as he walked his daughter down the aisle for her wedding. Meadow Walker, 22, asked her godfather to take on the important role. "We couldn't have imagined it to be any more perfect and personal—and honestly, it was easy and simple," she said of the ceremony that took place in the Dominican Republic. "Louis [Thornton-Allan] and I knew exactly what we wanted from the start. It was a very intimate celebration."

Walker passed away at the age of 40, on November 30, 2013, when the car he was driving along with Roger Rodas crashed into a concrete lamp post and two trees. It then caught fire. It has been eight years since his death. Diesel took to Instagram to remember his best friend in a lengthy and emotional post. Sharing a picture of his daughter as the Maid of Honor at Meadow's wedding, he wrote:

"It's been eight years today... and not a day goes by that I don't reflect of the brotherhood we were blessed to have... but you know that," he said after sharing the story of how Walker's advice on how to welcome his first child into the world had stuck with him over the years. "Tragedies in life are always followed by life's blessings if you just stay open and have faith. Look at this photo Pablo, it will make you smile," Diesel said, referring to the late actor by the nickname he gave him.

"The same angel that you helped me prepare for in the most beautiful way with your brotherly advice is the same angel that precious Meadow asked to be her Maid of Honor," he went on to say, and added, "How could I have known that back on the 2008 set of Fast... but maybe somehow you did. Miss you. My children always tell me that uncle Paul is with you, dad, always... and I know in my heart that they are right. Miss you Pablo..."

Meadow also paid tribute to her father on Instagram and shared a picture from when she was a baby. She wrote: "I love and miss you endlessly. Today and every day, I celebrate your life, your love. And you, my best friend." She was 15 at the time of her father's death. In a follow-up post, she shared a fundraiser they were holding in Walker's honor by donating the profits from the Limited Edition Paul Walker Foundation Yeti Mug to Toys For Tots.

The Diesel and Walker families are evidently close to each other. Diesel even named his daughter, Pauline, who is now six, after the late actor. "It felt like, you know, a way to keep his memory a part of my family and a part of my world," he said of his decision to do so back in 2015.
