Turn Up Charlie was met with mixed reviews but was able to get a lot of love. In this article we will explore all the information we have regarding the show's renewal.
The Idris Elba Netflix series "Turn Up Charlie" was a very fun and entertaining watch. From just 8 short 30-minute episodes, season 1 has been able to garner quite the fanbase. The show follows a washed-up DJ named Charlie, who is desperate to get his career back up and running. In order to build his career, he becomes the manny of the spoilt daughter of his famous friends, Gaby. After some really trying times, Charlie and Gaby become good friends. The ending wasn't very final and left a lot of room for more storytelling, so the big question is, are we going to get a second season of "Turn Up Charlie"? Let's explore.
Short answer, not yet. Netflix usually takes about a month or two to determine whether or not a show should be renewed. And it has been a little more than two months since the show first premiered so we can expect a renewal update any time now. Sometimes Netflix takes a considerable amount of time to make a decision. The good news is that Netflix hasn't cancelled the show and well, the bad news is that they haven't renewed it either. We will be keeping an eye on this show and try to update you all as soon as we get some news regarding the shows renewal status.
With the absence of official news, we tend to use historical data to come up with some reasonable guesses. The most reasonable guess we have is early 2020 if production begins sometime in the summer. However, the one thing that may affect the time in which the new season comes out is Idris Elba's working schedule. As you may well know, Idris Elba will be starring in James Gunn's "Suicide Squad" as Deadshot and also in the movie-musical "Cats". This issue could push the show's release date to late 2020 or 2021.
At the end of the first season, Charlie learns a valuable lesson in maintaining success and work ethic and goes on a world tour with Sara's former agent Astrid while Sara and her husband David officially separate. Sara and Gaby remain in London as David goes off to shoot a blockbuster film.
In season 2 we will most likely be following Charlie on his tour around the world and his relationship with Astrid. We may also be seeing a lot more of Charlie's parents as Charlie went on to tell them the truth about himself and his aunt.
We may also see Sara and Gaby getting used to their life in London and we can surely expect Charlie to pay them a visit, which in itself could lead to some drama as Charlie and Sara can explore a newfound relationship that can cause a bit of jealousy by Astrid. In my opinion, there are a lot of directions for the story to go but they are going to need a good writer because there is a high probability of season 2 becoming a complete bomb. I can see it being very boring if not done right.
Since the show is called "Turn Up Charlie" we can expect that Idris Elba will return as Charlie. We can also expect Piper Perabo to return as Sara, Angela Griffin as Astrid, JJ Feild as David and Frankie Hervey as the young Gabrielle.
There is also a possibility that Guz Khan could return as Charlie's best mate Del and Jocelyn Jee Esien could reappear as Auntie Lydia. It is unclear whether or not the second season will focus mainly on Charlie's new life as a popular DJ.
