The Idris Elba Netflix series “Turn Up Charlie” was a very fun and entertaining watch. From just eight short 30-minute episodes, season 1 has garnered quite the fanbase. The show follows a washed-up DJ named Charlie, who is desperate to get his career back up and running. To build his career, he becomes the manny of the spoilt daughter of his famous friend, Gaby. After some really trying times, Charlie and Gaby become good friends. The ending wasn’t very final and left a lot of room for more storytelling, so the big question is, are we going to get a second season of “Turn Up Charlie”? Let’s explore.
Has Turn Up Charlie Been Renewed For A Second Season?
Turn Up Charlie premiered on Netflix on 5 March 2019. We have waited to hear from Netflix about the show’s renewal for months, but the streaming giant remained tight-lipped. A year after, in April 2020, Deadline confirmed that Turn Up Charlie is canceled.
“Turn Up Charlie will not return for a second season,” Netflix said in a statement via Deadline.
“We’re especially grateful to star and executive producer Idris Elba, who turned his passion for DJing into a witty, heart-warming comedy series. We’re also thankful to executive producers Gary Reich and Tristram Shapeero and co-executive producers Martin Joyce and Ana Garanito, along with the dedicated cast and crew, for bringing this story to life on Netflix. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Idris on future projects.”
What Could Turn Up Charlie Season 2 Be About If It Wasn’t Canceled?
In the first season finale, Charlie learns a significant lesson about maintaining success and work ethic. He embarks on a world tour with Astrid, Sara’s former agent, while Sara and David officially separate. David leaves for a blockbuster film shoot, and Sara and Gaby stay in London.
If the show had been renewed for a second season, it is likely that we would have followed Charlie’s tour around the world and his relationship with Astrid. We might have seen more of Charlie’s parents, as he told them the truth about himself and his aunt.
Additionally, we could have observed Sara and Gaby adjusting to their life in London. Charlie would have likely visited them, which could have led to some drama. Charlie and Sara might have explored a newfound relationship, causing jealousy by Astrid. However, a good writer is necessary to avoid season 2 becoming a complete failure. If not done correctly, it could be tedious and uninteresting.
Who Could’ve Been In The Cast Of Turn Up Charlie Season 2 If It Was Renewed?
Since the show is called “Turn Up Charlie” we could have expected that Idris Elba would return as Charlie. We could have also expected Piper Perabo to return as Sara, Angela Griffin as Astrid, JJ Feild as David, and Frankie Hervey as the young Gabrielle. There would have also been a possibility that Guz Khan could return as Charlie’s best mate Del and Jocelyn Jee Esien could have reappeared as Auntie Lydia.
