In Good Hands Synopsis

The film tells the story of Melisa who is given only five months to live after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. Despite the crushing news, she doesn’t lose heart. Her son, Can, is kept in the dark about the diagnosis and is the only source of concern for Melisa who wonders what will happen to him after she’s gone. While keeping spirits up, she sets off to find a suitable caretaker for her son. But in the process, she bumps into a man whom she will end up falling in love with.

Melisa and Can meet Firat, a very popular businessman, and their first encounter is anything but pleasant. But after feeling like she saw him everywhere she went, Melisa decides to give the relationship a shot. After an eventful date at a club, the two spend the night together and this night takes a turn when the cloth Can had entrusted to his mom as a way to ensure she would come back home falls in the water. Melisa jumps in after the cloth with Firat following. They then go home to an annoyed Can who refuses to acknowledge Firat.

Who Is Can’s Real Father?

Can is unaccepting of Firat in his mother’s life. After Firat saves Melisa from a creepy man at work, Can decides to acknowledge Firat. They get to know each other better and Firat wonders about Can’s obsession with tissue paper. Melisa reveals that his birth father had died when he went out to buy tissue paper. So, Can always wanted to be well-stocked because of his trust issues. But there is a twist in the story when Can encounters the man his mother had introduced as his father. The man turned out to be Melisa’s friend who had left for Germany years ago. Firat is also at the scene when Can confronts the man he thought was his father. But Melisa faints as the event transpires.

With this incident, two secrets are forced to come to light—why Melisa lied about Can’s father and the fact that she did not tell Firat about her illness. He feels cheated by her and thinks she did this to trick him into taking in her son because he was a rich businessman. But that’s when she reveals that Firat was actually Can’s real father.

In Good Hands Ending Explained

Melisa explains that she had met Firat at a club many years ago and had slept with him. Firat had, in fact, not returned to her house after he left to get snacks and tissue paper. She then found out that she was pregnant with his child but when she tried to get in touch with him, she was unsuccessful because he was always busy. The second encounter was pure coincidence but her life had come full circle.

Even though shocked at first, Firat decides to stay with Can, whom he has accepted as his son. Melisa entrusts their son to Firat and disappears. She leaves a diary for Can who is heartbroken after his mom’s unannounced departure. The diary is to serve as a reminder of her to Can. The ending shot is of Melisa walking towards the sea. Only her shoes are left behind. This indicates that she has passed away and gone to a better place with the satisfaction that her son is in the good hands of Firat.
