Speaking out for the first time since Pope Francis’ funeral, President Donald Trump has vowed to take action against President Vladimir Putin.
At the bottom of a long post on Truth Social, the 78-year-old Republican criticized The New York Times for its coverage of the peace agreement that the Trump administration is trying to negotiate.
It read: “With all of that being said, there was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days. It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through “Banking” or “Secondary Sanctions?” Too many people are dying!!!”
He is referring to an attack that occurred early on Thursday morning (April 24), local time, when a residential area in Kyiv was bombarded with missiles and drones for hours.
It is the bloodiest attack on the Ukrainian capital since last July, with at least nine people killed and over 70 injured, just as peace efforts are reaching a peak.
Speaking about it on the day of the attacks, Trump posted on Truth Social: “I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!”
Earlier today, Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were photographed in a “meeting” at Pope Francis’ funeral. The photo showed the two leaders sitting on chairs across from each other in St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.

This was the first in-person meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy since their heated exchange in front of national television in the Oval Office in February.
Since taking office, the 78-year-old Republican president has repeatedly chastised his Ukrainian counterpart, but by all accounts, they have put the feud behind them.
Taking to Twitter to reflect on their meeting, Zelenskyy wrote: “Good meeting. We discussed a lot one on one. Hoping for results on everything we covered. Protecting lives of our people.
“Full and unconditional ceasefire. Reliable and lasting peace that will prevent another war from breaking out. Very symbolic meeting that has potential to become historic, if we achieve joint results. Thank you @POTUS.”
It is unclear if Putin will accept the peace agreement.
