When Top Gun: Maverick had been delayed from 2019 to 2020, none of us had the slightest idea that we would have to wait for the movie even longer. But we hope that no one has lost their interest in the movie since its original version, Top Gun, came 34 years ago!
The sequel revolves around a batch of recruits in Top Gun, who Maverick is set to train for a mission, now that he has spent more than three decades as a top Navy aviator.
Top Gun: Maverick is all set to release in cinemas in December this year; however, the real question is, will the sequel live up to the expectation after such a long gap in between?
Top Gun: Maverick had been announced to release in July 2019; however, that got delayed for an entire year. After that, the release date got shifted to June or July 2020.
But then, the sequel got hit with yet another delay with the Coronavirus pandemic demanding the shut down of entertainment houses, cinemas, sets, etc. Now, we will be able to see Top Gun: Maverick this Christmas in cinemas in the US and UK.
Tom Cruise responded to the movie's delay with an apologetic message to his fans as well as a 'stay safe' wish on his official Twitter.
I know many of you have waited 34 years. Unfortunately, it will be a little longer. Top Gun: Maverick will fly this December. Stay safe, everyone.— Tom Cruise (@TomCruise) April 2, 2020
The US Navy Fighter Weapons School in Miramar will yet again see Tom Cruise as Maverick and Val Kilmer as Iceman. Now, Iceman and Maverick have had a very dynamic relationship in the original movie, and fans are anticipating how their relationship has evolved over the years. It is one of the things that makes the Top Gun franchise so iconic. However, director Joseph Kosinski is sure to have kept the evolving relationship a secret.
Miles Teller will be appearing as Bradley Bradshaw, Goose’s son in Top Gun: Maverick.
Jennifer Connelly will be the female lead, playing the role of a single mother running a local bar. Ed Harris and Jon Hamm will also join her, Ed Harris being a direct superior to Maverick.
However, one person won't be back in this sequel, and that is Michael Ironside. He won't be reprising his character as Lieutenant Commander Rick, owing to the fact that his relationship with the movie's producer isn't the best.
Pete Maverick Mitchell has spent the last thirty years as one of the top aviators in the Navy. He is anticipating an advancement in his rank from an adventurous test pilot.
However, he now finds himself teaching a bunch of graduates from Top Gun for an unprecedented mission. Maverick meets Bradley Bradshaw, Goose’s son, and can’t help but go down memory lane to a dark past.
Maverick then has to confront his past and his deepest fears as he trains those who have to fight in a mission that would make sacrifices and bravery.
Top Gun: Maverick has undoubtedly made us wait a whole lot longer than it should have. All there is to find out now is whether the wait was worth it or not.
