Top Gun: Maverick is soaring high in the box office and it's set to become the highest grossing movie of Tom Cruise's career.
You're never too old to top yourself! And Tom Cruise has proven that with Top Gun: Maverick.
Based on early weekend estimates, Top Gun: Maverick is set to have a record-breaking second weekend with an only 33% decline from its first weekend.
Deadline reports that Top Gun: Maverick is estimated to make about $84.5 million this weekend. These numbers will put the film at $290 million by the end of the day on Sunday. This will be the highest-grossing film in Tom Cruise's career, crushing his previous high of $234.2 million for 2005’s War of the Worlds. The worldwide total for War of the Worlds was $603.8 million and Top Gun Maverick is set to blow that total out of the sky with a current worldwide total of $400 million+.
Top Gun: Maverick became Tom Cruise's best opening weekend and an only 33% decline in its second week is among the best for a wide release that’s opened to north of $100 million.
Top Gun: Maverick success seems to be a result of word-of-mouth spread and is, to put simply, a good movie. It managed to score a 97% on the Tomatometer and an even better audience rating of 99%.
