The sequel to Tomb Raider is in production and here's everything we know about it so far!
Alicia Vikander is returning for the Tomb Raider sequel. The film did not perform very well in the US Box Office, grossing only $58 million. However, the international market saw the movie to a total worldwide gross of $273.5 million. This was enough for MGM and Warner Bros to create a sequel. Ben Wheatley has been hired to direct based on a script by Amy Jump. Here's everything we know so far about the upcoming film.
Warner Bros. confirmed that Tomb Raider 2 will be released on March 19, 2021. Filming is expected to begin sometime in early 2020.
The battle against Trinity will likely continue in the sequel. At the end of the first film, we find out that Trinity was connected to Croft Holdings through the parent company Patna. The head of Patna is the business partner of Lara's father and she soon finds out that she worked with Vogel and Trinity to try to spread the deadly virus.
In the credits scene, we see Lara buy the twin guns that we know so well from the video games.
She is now ready and determined to continue the fight against Trinity and it is likely that this will continue on to the sequel. However, there is also the possibility that the new movie might follow a whole new thread with new tombs, completely independent of the first film. We'll just have to wait and see.
Alicia Vikander is returning to her role as our favorite tomb raider Lara Croft. If the story of the first movie continues on to the sequel then we can expect Kristin Scott Thomas to return as Ana Miller. Dominic West will likely not return to the sequel as Lara's father as he was killed in the first movie. Walton Goggins will also likely not return as the main villain Mathias Vogel.
Daniel Wu may return as Lu Ren but at the moment the only confirmed cast member is Alicia Vikander.
At the moment there is no trailer for the film. However, feel free to enjoy the trailer for the first film.
