Netflix finally casts their new Addams Family for the upcoming live action series directed by Tim Burton.

Netflix is teaming up with acclaimed gothic fantasy and horror filmmaker Tim Burton for an upcoming live-action Addams Family TV show, 'Wednesday.' Tim Burton is the genius mind behind spooky yet irresistible films like 'Edward Scissorhands,'  'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street', 'Corpse Bride' and so much more.

The Addams Family is an iconic figure in film and pop culture due to their eccentric yet charming preference for all things dark. The Netflix series will be focusing on the life of the Wednesday, Gomez, and Morticia Addams' only daughter.

Netflix won the bidding war against multiple competitors for the global rights of the series. 'Wednesday' is currently in the early stages of development, but the titular role has been finally cast.

What Is The Plot Of Tim Burton’s 'Wednesday'?

The Netflix series will follow Wednesday Addams as she navigates student life at Nevermore Academy, all while facing some serious threats. Nevermore is said to be a very unique boarding school in a remote part of New England. Wednesday tries to juggle honing her psychic ability, preventing a monstrous killing spree, and solving a supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago.

The story of The Addams Family was created by an American cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938. It had numerous iterations over the decade, including two live-action series, and a film franchise. Its most recent revival is the 2021 MGM animated movie.

With Director Tim Burton on board, Netflix's 'Wednesday' is going to be the most exciting revival of the iconic family.

Who Is Cast In Tim Burton’s 'Wednesday'?

Netflix has finally revealed who will be portraying the iconic Wednesday Addams in the upcoming series. She is no other than Jenna Ortega! Ortega has already appeared in several Netflix shows. 

She played Ellie in 'You' season 2, Phoebe in 'The Babysitter: Killer Queen,' and Katie Torres in 'Yes Day'. Ortega is also the voice of Brooklyn in the popular Jurassic World animated series 'Camp Cretaceous.'

Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones will be playing Addams matriarch, Morticia Addams, and Luis Guzmán will be playing her husband Gomez Addams.



 

Casting for the recurring roles is currently ongoing. 

When Will 'Wednesday' Release?

As of this writing, the series is still in development and has not entered production yet, which means that it will be a while before the show lands on the screen.

It will likely release around late 2022 or early 2023. We will continue to watch out for upcoming updates and edit this space from time to time. 



 

How Many Episodes Will 'Wednesday' Have? 

The first season of Tim Burton's 'Wednesday' will have a total of eight episodes. Each episode will run for about an hour.

Will There Be 'Wednesday' Season 2? 

So far, Netflix has only ordered eight episodes of the series. However, if the series proves to be a hit, Netflix will most likely green-light a second season.
