'This Is Us' Is Ending After Season 6, And Fans Are Not Ready To Say Their Goodbyes Yet!

The reason why the showrunners decided to end the show sooner is that they didn't want fans to feel that the series has gone on for too long, which generally happens.

TV series is addictive and entertaining. Some series become a part of fans' lives, and some fans grow attached to it easily, because of which, when any loved series end, it leaves a void in the heart.

Something like that might happen with the fans who fell in love with the TV show, 'This Is Us'. It's been reported that the American comedy-drama television show could be over sooner than fans could have ever expected, reported PEOPLE.

The showrunners, Issac Aptaker, and Dan Fogelman opened up the show's future where they revealed that the series could end after season 6. Even though the show is in its third season, Aptaker said that there is a finale planned for "about three seasons in the future."

This news might have shocked many fans, but Fogelman always had an ending in mind since the beginning of the first season.

“From day one, Dan came in with his master plan for the big picture stuff of the show and said, ‘I think this is where we end up. I think this is what I know. Let’s figure out the rest together.’ So all of the writers and the actors really know everything,” Aptaker said.

“We’re all pretty good at keeping secrets by now, it’s been three years, but it’s a total open book for everyone who works on the show, so there are no secrets from each other.”

It is obvious that the fans will be heartbroken when the time will come to say goodbye to the Pearson family, however, the showrunners of the series are pretty much confident about its ending as they feel the viewers will find the series 'elegant' and 'satisfying'.

“I would hope that when we reach our ending, people think it’s a really satisfying end place, that makes sense, and it feels like they’ve watched something that is a complete piece of work because that’s really how we’re trying to plan it,” Aptaker added.

The reason why the showrunners decided to end the show sooner is that they didn't want fans to feel that the series has gone on for too long, which generally happens. They said that they would rather want fans to feel curious and wanting more than feeling monotonous after a certain point of time.

“We’ve had this end in mind for a long time, so we’re able to plan for it, and try to make it feel like it’s a whole, as opposed to a series that’s going to go endlessly.”

As for now, fans are excited to know what's going to happen in Season 4 and what is its overarching theme that will lead to in Season 4. “We’ve got multiple seasons mapped out,” Fogelman said.

“I think this season has been a lot about redemption, but also a lot of rebirth. Next season is a season of new beginnings and restarts.” In the upcoming season, fans might see an episode dedicated to Beth and Randall's relationship as a whole, reported DEADLINE.

“We’re doing an episode that’s almost in real-time that was written by one of our writers who’s a famous playwright, Bekah Brunstetter, and that’s essentially watching people sitting in a room for 45 minutes,” Aptaker said.

“That’s episode 15. Then we have an episode that’s jumping through different phases of Beth and Randall’s relationship over the years. So we’re going to see their first date, we’re going to see some other major milestones. That’s Episode 17.”

Aptaker also revealed that whoever is on the show knows where the whole story ends up. “From day one, Dan came in with his master plan for the big picture stuff of the show and said, ‘I think this is where we end up. I think this is what I know. Let’s figure out the rest together.’ So all of the writers and the actors really know everything. We’re all pretty good at keeping secrets by now, it’s been three years, but it’s a total open book for everyone who works on the show, so there are no secrets from each other.”

In a previous flash forward, speculations were there that Beth and Randall's relationship might be going through some rough patch, because of which they might head for divorce.

When asked about this, Aptaker said, “I’m not going to confirm or deny,” Aptaker said, “but they are very, very loving couple. They have such a history together.”

As far as the character of Mandy Moore as Rebecca is concerned, her character was revealed to be the person at the center of a mysterious flash forward.

Even Moore was not ready to let out much secret, “We all know at this point that the mystery of ‘Her’ has been solved and it is Rebecca” she said, “but it’s just about how that manifests itself.”

Will Rebecca fall foul of some terrible illness, like dementia, where she is perpetually confused by all her own timelines? “Oh I hope not,” Moore said. “Let’s not go there. I mean, it’s true-to-life, sure. But I think that they’re true-to-form with the show. This poor woman has led quite a life, you know?” she added.

This Is Us — starring Sterling K. Brown, Justin Hartley, Chrissy Metz, Mandy Moore, and Milo Ventimiglia — airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
