Khaleesi or Daenerys was one of the top 'Game of Thrones' inspired baby names since the last few years, but see how the parents have reacted to naming their baby after the latest episode.
Daenerys Targaryen was regarded as the savior of Westeros once before she followed the footsteps of her father and became the Mad Queen. No matter what is the outcome of the final episode of the finale of 'Game of Thrones', the penultimate episode has managed to anger a lot of people and many of whom believe Daenerys would not have torched the innocent citizens of King’s Landing.
Out of those people who were particularly annoyed by the decision of Daenerys to torch the entire city are parents who named their children Khaleesi in honor of the Mother of Dragons. According to the data provided by the United States’ Social Security Administration, more than 4,500 babies were named after Game of Thrones characters alone. Out of them, 560 kids were named Khaleesi and 163 were named Daenerys.
As reported by Independent, Estrada, whose six-year-old is called Khalessi, said, "I’m kind of in shock. It was kind of disappointing that her power trip took over. That was not cool.” She also added that even though she stands by the cool and the powerful name and the character, the latest episode of the series has changed her perspective towards the character and what it represents. She added saying that she feels a bit bittersweet now.
Katherine Acosta, another mother who named her one-year-old daughter Khaleesi, while speaking to The Cut, said, "Even after last night’s episode, I’m still rooting for her. I don’t think she did anything wrong. I think she did what she had to do. She gave many options. She tells you, ‘Are you gonna bend the knee, or are you not?’ So I don’t know why everybody’s acting surprised. She’s done this before. If you betray her, you don’t bend the knee, look what happens.”
According to Comicbook, D.B. Weiss explained the episode after it aired, saying, "I don't think she decided ahead of time that she was going to do what she did. Then she sees the Red Keep, which is to her the home that her family built when they first came over to this country 300 years ago. It's in this moment on the walls of King's Landing where she's looking at that symbol of everything that was taken from her when she makes the decision to make this personal."
David Benioff added, "If circumstances had been different, I don't think this side of Dany ever would have come out. If Cersei hadn't betrayed her if Cersei hadn't executed Missandei if Jon hadn't told her the truth… if any of these things happened in a different way, then I don't think we'd be seeing this side of Daenerys Targaryen."
