Fans of The Walking Dead may have a reason to rejoice despite the long-running series coming to an end later this year. Many fans were disappointed when Rick Grimes played by Andrew Lincoln exited the show in season nine. Rick was the series protagonist initially. He was a former sheriff's deputy and becomes the leader of a group of survivors in the Alexandria Safe-Zone. In the third season, he meets Michonne played by Danai Gurira, who eventually becomes his romantic partner. Her character also left in search of Rick in the tenth season. There is now talk that AMC may be working on a spin-off series with Rick and Michonne.

As per Small Screen, actor Ross Marquand, who plays Aaron in the final series of The Walking Dead has revealed that he had heard rumors of a Rick and Michonne spinoff series being in the works, not a movie. This was revealed by a Twitter user. At the time of Lincoln's departure, AMC had revealed that he would still be a part of The Walking Dead universe and would be featured in multiple films in the future.

Chief content officer, Scott Gimple had stated, "We have a lot on the horizon – starting with a new epic featuring one of the greatest leading actors in television history and one of the best people I’ve ever met." He went on to say, "These films are going to be big evolutions of what we’ve been doing on the show, with the scope and scale of features. We’re starting with the first part of the continuing story of Rick Grimes, and there is much more on the way, featuring yet-unseen worlds of The Walking Dead and faces from the show’s past, as well as new characters we hope to become favorites, told by TWD veterans and emerging voices."

The Walking Dead has already had various spin-off series including a Daryl and Carol spinoff that was announced in 2020 but will be released in 2023. In March, another duo spin-off, this time centering on Negan and Maggie, was also greenlit by AMC, reported TV Line. The series is titled Isle of the Dead and will follow "the unlikely pair in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror." So, a Rick and Michonne spin-off does not seem unlikely and all we have to do is wait for an official confirmation from AMC now.

The Walking Dead is a zombie post-apocalypse horror series. It is based on the comic series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. The series follows the story of the survivors of a zombie apocalypse who are trying to stay alive under the near-constant threat of attacks from zombies who are referred to as "walkers." Additionally, there has been an overhaul of the world as we knew it and the survivors also have to take on other groups of survivors to make it.
