According to Fox TV chairman Gary Newman, he would like to believe that Anderson still can be convinced to be there for more seasons!
One of the most famous sci-fi series of all time, 'The X-Files' stands of inestimable value for the fans who are into shows that are all about science and bizarre yet intimidating future possibilities. It has been in the entertainment industry for the longest of time, and the original show was aired for the first time on September 10, 1993, and continued till May 19, 2002. The show then again got revived by the network and premiered on January 24, 2016. The popularity and success this show received also led in the birth of two movies and has laid the foundation of an entire franchise including spin-offs and merchandise. Fans have seen the show grew into a big brand and the actors in it have received the best of recognization and fame because of the show. The show became a part of the pop culture and a sensation that made people question the government and large institutions while the show combines conspiracy theories and spirituality.
The show has entertained its fans by making 11 mind-blowing seasons, and now there are fans reports stating that season 12 of 'The X-Files' is coming soon. Ever since this news has surfaced, fans are going nuts about it, which is why, to calm them down a bit, we have assembled everything we could about the renewal of 'The X-Files' for the 12th time. Let's try finding out what all do we know about the 12th season.
The eleventh season of 'The X-Files' premiered on January 3, 2018, and after that, there hasn't been any information about Fox renewing the show for another season. Fans were already shocked to hear about the exit of Gillian Anderson. Not just Anderson, the showrunner Carter was unsure about whether the show will be able to go on without Scully. He said, “For me, the show has always been Mulder and Scully. So the idea of doing the show without her isn’t something I’ve ever had to consider. Was her character given a proper goodbye? I think you will want to sit down and watch the series finale very carefully”.
On the other hand, Fox's president was more positive about bringing Anderson back on board, and co-star Duchovny also said that he also has said that he too had said goodbye to the character of Mulder several times, but always comes back. Therefore, the big question is will the show continue without Scully? The fact that the series has continued without Mulder, so there is no reason why the show cannot do without Scully. No matter how much fans will miss the perfect Mulder's character that Scully brought to the story, the show must go on. Even though there isn't any official date announced yet for the renewal of the show, but we strongly believe that the show will come at the earliest ‘The X-Files’ Season 12 can release is in 2020.
According to Fox TV chairman Gary Newman, he would like to believe that Anderson still can be convinced to be there for more seasons. "I would not exclude the possibility that there would be more. But not only is there no plan, there hasn't been a single conversation. It's too early to even speculate," he explained. On the other hand, Anderson happened to be pretty confident that season 11 is the end of Scully. "It's time for me to hang up Scully's hat. It just is," she noted at the TCA press tour in January 2018, where she also said that she's thought about leaving since before the six-episode revival season. She continued, "I wouldn't necessarily have been happy if those six were how we said goodbye... There's lots of things that I want to do in my life and in my career, and it's been an extraordinary opportunity and extraordinary character and I am hugely grateful." Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, X-Files creator Chris Carter also revealed that he'd be open to continuing the show without Anderson as Scully. "I think that certainly The X-Files has more life in it," he said. "There are more stories to tell, with Gillian or without."

Keeping Mulder and Scully aside, season 12 will have Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner and William B Davis as Cigarette Smoking Man. In season 11, the recurring cast that will most probably be seen are Miles Robbins as William, Robbie Amell as Agent Kyd Miller, Lauren Ambrose as Agent Liz Einstein, Annabeth Gish as former FBI agent Monica Reyes and Veronica Cartwright as Cassandra Spender who happens to be the ex-wife of the Cigarette Smoking Man.
