The dysfunctional but powerful Hargreeves siblings have saved the world again in the latest season of The Umbrella Academy.
Barely a month since season 2 landed on Netflix, followers of the superhero series are already checking on the status of its possible renewal for season 3.
Will the Hargreeves siblings save the world for the third time?
Here's the latest update on The Umbrella Academy.
Netflix is yet to confirm the series for season 3. Netflix often takes a month to decide whether to renew a series or not.
However, all the signs are telling us it's just a matter of time before the streaming platform gives the series the green light for more episodes.
The Umbrella Academy is one of Netflix's critically-acclaimed shows. In April 2019, Netflix announced that 45 Million households watched its first season within 30 days since its premiere. The show continues to generate buzz across social media platforms. The latest season performed even better than the last and currently holds an 89% critic rating compared to season one's 75%.
With all this said, the show's future sure looks bright.
Season one and two followed the Hargreeves siblings saving the world from an imminent apocalypse. Nothing is known regarding the showrunner's plans for season 3 yet, however, it's likely for them to veer away from the same plot. After all, repeating the same scenario all over three seasons could be anticlimactic.
What fans shouldn't expect though is to see a happy Hargreeves family in season 3. Season 2 opened a new timeline for the series. The Hargreeves siblings are now in a 1960's parallel version of their original present. In this reality, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, the sibling's surrogate father who died in season 1, is very much alive.
The appearance of their cold father also brought astounding revelations for the siblings like when they learned that the Umbrella Academy they knew is actually the Sparrow Academy.
The change in the timeline will extremely affect the overarching plot for season 3.
We're expecting the six alive Hargreeves siblings to reprise their roles should the show be renewed for season 3.
They are Tom Hopper as Number One/Luther, David Castañeda as Number Two/Diego, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Number Three/Allison, Robert Sheehan as Number Four/Klaus, Aidan Gallagher as Number Five, and Ellen Page as Number Seven/Vanya.
With the new timeline, we can also now expect to see Colm Feore back as Sir Reginald Hargreeves together with Justin H Min as the newly corporal Ben Hargreeves. The new timeline could also give more appearances for the talking chimp, Pogo by Adam Godley.
Ritu Arya is also likely to return as Lila Pitts to handle her “unfinished business” with Diego.
Nothing has been confirmed yet but if we look at the past schedules and considering the recent pandemic, season 3 is likely to release late next year or 2022.
Season one released on February 15, 2019, and season 2 recently dropped on July 31, 2020.
We'll keep you posted with the latest updates.
