The Stranger tied all the loose ends by the end of the first season, can we still expect for a follow-up?
In early 2020, Netflix dropped The Stranger and hooked the audience to devour the entire season as soon as possible. The show premiered with eight episodes on 30 January 2020. Each episode ends with a cliffhanger tempting audience to watch one episode after another to get answers. The story follows a 20-year-old mysterious woman who goes around threatening to reveal people's darkest secrets if they don't pay her with money. With everything pieced together by the end of season 1, can we still expect more?
As of this writing, there are still no announcements regarding the renewal of the show. Author Harlan Coben has previously revealed that the show has been created for one season only. Speaking to the press, the author said, "We don't think it's fair to have one of those shows where they don't give you all the answers, and you have to wait until season two before you get it,"
He further added, "This is a closed story. You learned all the answers by the end, and the ending is tremendously satisfying."
If the second season will ever get the go signal, it is unlikely for most of the cast to return. In the same interview, Coben revealed that it's not on their plan to bring in the old characters, although it is possible.
Coben added, "I never say never, but it's not our plan. Our plan is to give you one great, great season."
It's still too early to predict anything about the second season of the show. Moreover, the author has no plans to bring back the original cast, which means that we're left with a huge void to fill. However, we are hopeful that the plot of the new season will still revolve around the character of Christine Killane, who played the stranger in the first season. This raises the possibility of bringing back Hannah John-Kamen to reprise her role. Alternatively, the authors may decide to create spin-off stories for each character, but until an official announcement is made, we can only speculate.
There are two possible directions for the show to take in the next season. The first option is to introduce a new cast and storyline, while the second option is to build on the existing plot threads from the previous season. For instance, Christine, who is also known as "The Stranger," could continue making a living by exposing people's secrets and causing rifts in families. Additionally, it was revealed in the last season that Christine is Adam's half-sister, which opens up another potential storyline for season two if the writers decide to delve deeper into the characters.
