Tony DiTerlizzi and Holy Black’s beloved children’s novel, The Spiderwick Chronicles is getting a live-action adaptation, and fans can’t hold their excitement about it. We already had a film adaptation of this story back in 2008, starring Freddie Highmore, which received some decent reviews from the viewers and critics. So it's safe to say we have way more expectations from the live-action series now. As Disney+ announced the project back in November 2021, the idea was welcomed with positive reactions from the readers of the book and lovers of the fantasy genre equally. Twitter erupted with enthusiastic audiences as they looked forward to the show, which will be arriving anytime in the following years. Back in August 2023, Disney+ decided to shelf the project. But right after that, the creators started looking for another place to release it. They've now found a new home for the show. It's going to be on Roku in 2024.
Roku hasn't announced a specific release date, but we will keep an eye out.
If we follow the narrative from the source material, The Spiderwick Chronicles takes us on a mythical adventure where a family moves into their old ancestral home, and the members of the Grace family discover that prior to their arrival, the mansion was sheltering faerie creatures and a mystical realm might exist parallel to theirs. The series will most probably focus on a mythical parallel universe and the creatures that inhabit it. Twin brothers Jared and Simon, along with their mother and sister’s story, will unfold in the Spiderwick Estate.
In the cast of this series, we have a lot of familiar faces from Hollywood and some child actors as well. Stepping into the lead roles, we have Lyon Daniels and Noah Cottrell playing the twins Jared and Simon Grace. Joy Bryant plays Helen Grace, and Mychala Lee is Mallory Grace. Christian Slater will be playing Mulgarath, an ogre. This series is created by Aron Eli Coleite and produced by Paramount Television Studios, which will be available for streaming on Roku.
