The Simpsons has ‘killed off’ one of its main characters for the first time in its history, leaving fans petrified.
Over the years, the longest-running animated series in history has established a solid reputation for accurately forecasting future events.
Notable jokes on the popular show have included Donald Trump arriving at the White House, Lady Gaga’s flying entry into the Super Bowl, and the US fighting murder hornets, a disease that resembles COVID-19.
Even while that’s arguably The Simpsons’ most outstanding feature, the show’s success is largely due to its characters.
For those of you who haven’t been watching the show lately, we’ve lost recurring characters like Edna Krabappel and Fat Tony, and Ned Flanders became a widower for the second time after Maude passed away earlier.
The makers of The Simpsons has now ‘killed off’ Marge Simpson in the most recent season’s conclusion, marking the show’s 36th season and counting.
Estranger Things, the show’s last episode, chronicles Bart and Lisa’s friendship over the years as Marge worries that they are growing apart after they stopped watching Itchy and Scratchy episodes together.
The episodes then jump ahead 35 years, to a time when Bart operates an unauthorized retirement home and Lisa is prospering from a lucrative career.
Surprisingly, Lisa and Bart talk about their “late mother,” which implies Marge passed away before she was in her early seventies.
The episode also features Homer, who is discovered in a Florida care facility with Mr. Skinner and Milhouse, although Marge is not present.
Lisa rejoins Bart and assists in breaking Homer out of Florida after finding a letter that Marge sent to be opened after she “passes on.” Ringo Starr of The Beatles is then seen helping Marge climb to heaven.
Devastated that Marge seems to have passed away sooner than we all had hoped, fans have poured into social media.
“I haven’t even watched The Simpsons in 10+ years but they really killed MARGE?!” one person penned on Twitter.
Then someone else said, “WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY KILLED MARGE SIMPSON,” and someone else said, “Yo, they killed Marge off the Simpsons!?!?!?! WHAT?
Even though The Simpsons has been on television for a long time, the show has undoubtedly received a lot of criticism over the years, which the show’s creator believes has really benefited it.
“One of the best things that ever happened in the course of the show was that some people forbade the show,” Matt Groening told Variety.
