Riverdale-Sabrina Crossover

The fifth season of Riverdale was a wild ride that's about to get wilder in the upcoming special. The events of the preceding season set things up for this much-anticipated crossover between Riverdale and the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

As part of the previous season where there were a lot of revelations about Nana Rose and her family. The most unexpected part was her telling Cheryl Blossom about her ancestor, Abigail, who was murdered in the witch trials in the 1800s. Cheryl recites the curse that Abigail had used to curse the bloodlines of her murderers, who happened to be ancestors of Archie and Jughead. But this sets off something in the town that is most likely the premise of the crossover special.

The trailer for the bizarre turn of events at Riverdale has finally been released and it has taken a spooky turn. The crossover has been event-ized and there with the creators of the show deciding to air five episodes first starting on November 16. The production for the new season is, however, expected to run well into July next year.

From the trailer, we know to expect Cheryl leading a full-blown coven and also brushes with the devil. Of course, there is time for some Barchie romance amidst all the supernatural activities. Cheryl then welcomes Sabrina Spellman with the line: "Look at what the black cat dragged in." You can watch the spooky trailer here:

"We've been talking about having Sabrina visit Riverdale since season 1, so it's thrilling that this is finally happening, as part of our 'Rivervale' special event," showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told Entertainment Weekly. "It's also perfect that she shows up to help Cheryl Blossom during her hour of greatest need. Everyone on set lost their minds — I think fans will, too. It's really fun and special." Sabrina will be arriving in Riverdale in the sixth season's fourth episode, titled "The Witching Hour(s)." Fans of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina are excited to see their favorite witch resurrected in another show, especially after the show was canceled after four seasons due to the pandemic.

The two shows were initially conceptualized as companion series by The CW before Sabrina was taken over by Netflix. There have been hints of the two shows present in the same universe over the years. Greendale, Sabrina's town, was introduced in the second season of Riverdale for the first time. Since then there have been some minor crossovers between the two shows. This will be the first proper crossover.
