Heavy Spoiler Ahead, Tread Carefully...

Noah Centineo has been a Netflix heartthrob for quite some time now, but it seems that he has refused to be typecasted and stepped into something brand new in pursuit of delivering an impressionable performance. Netflix's The Recruit brings to us a slightly different take on espionage thriller by centering the story around a young CIA lawyer. The story focuses on Owen Hendricks who is a newly recruited CIA lawyer tasked with handling grey mail received by the agency. Let's find out if I can articulate my feelings about the show well, shall we?

What's The Premise of The Recruit?

The action-pack drama series follows the character of Centineo, who is a fresh graduate who finds what he expected to be a desk job to be way more dangerous. He is assigned the case of Max Meladze, who is a dangerous and manipulative person claiming to know all the CIA's darkest secrets. Upon meeting with Max, he realizes that Max's claims are credible. So, he goes to seek permission from his boss to further investigate the matter.

The story demands a little patience, but the subject material is commendable. The script is extremely gripping, and the character development is impeccable. The show's cliffhanger is the whole reason everybody is staying, and I am not complaining!

The Recruit Ending Explained

We really thought Owen was going to get the much-deserved happy ending, and he did come close. The finale saw Owen race across Prague to be reunited with his ex-girlfriend Hannah realizing that he should have listened to her. However, that didn't last very long as he was bundled into a vehicle before Hannah's eyes, leaving her shocked. When Owen wakes up, he finds himself tied to a chair in a cellar and is shocked to see rogue Russian asset Max opposite him, who has also been abducted. Moments later, we meet a young woman who goes by the name of Karolina, who makes a horrific entry and shoots Max in the chest.

Then she turns to Owen and asks,

"Who are you, and what the f**k are you doing with my mother?"

The Recruit creator Alexi Hawley would neither confirm nor deny whether she actually killed her mother, but here is a piece of information we have.

He told TUDUM: "Look, we did the most dramatic thing you can possibly do. And we did the thing we were building to the whole time, even though the audience didn’t know it.
"The story of Max and Owen is one of her being a pathological survivor. Whether she cares for him, whether she doesn’t, whether she cares for her kid or doesn’t — everything comes in second to her just making it to the next day."

There are a lotta lingering questions, like why was Karolina seeking revenge on her mother. Did Max wrong Karolina in the past? Owen is back to square one and is hellbent on understanding Karolina's motives.

As for what actually went does with mother and daughter, we'll have to wait and see.
