There are plenty of animes that deserve follow-up seasons but sadly didn't get more. One of these anime titles is the well-loved 'Avatar: The Last Airbender.'

Avatar: The Last Airbender's three seasons (Books) follows the adventures of 12-year old Aang, the world's last living Airbender. He is the only person who can "bend" each of the four elements of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. As the Fire Nation threatens to conquer the territories of the Four Nations, Aang must master the four elements to help end the war, together with his friends.

The anime debuted on Nickelodeon in 2005 and ran until 2008. A follow-up series, 'The Legend of Korra,' then got released and ran until 2012. The series focused on the titular Avatar, who followed Aang's footsteps.

In 2010, an Avatar film, 'The Last Airbender' got released. Sadly, the big-screen adaptation was not as successful as the anime.

The film was so bad it only received a 30% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics say it "squanders its popular source material with incomprehensible plotting, horrible acting, and detached joyless direction. "

The Last Airbender

Although 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' ended more than a decade ago, the anime continues to have a heap of loyal fans. Different graphic and sequel novels spawned, such as 'The Shadow of Kyoshi,' to continue the story. But despite them, we never had a fourth season of the anime 'Avatar: The Last Airbender.'

Here are the reasons why season 4 of 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' did not happen and might never will.

The main reason is 'The Last Airbender' movie. In 2019, writer Aaron Ehasz said on Twitter that they considered 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' season 4. However, M. Night Shymalan's 'The Last Airbender' movie shut down the plans for season 4. Although Shymalan wanted the anime to continue, Avatar creators Bryan Konietkzo and Michael Dante DiMartino wanted to focus on the film.

Of course, this was a major mistake since the film failed in so many ways.

According to Ehasz, Avatar: The Last Airbender season 4 would have covered the redemption arc for Zuko's sister Azula. Azula was the main villain of the anime. The third season concluded with Azula getting defeated by Katara. Ehasz said that Azula's path to redemption is a reflection of Zuko's journey. Zuko will like how Uncle Iroh guide him in the past.

Although the anime is now unlikely to return for season 4, fans will get more Avatar content soon through Netflix's live-action reboot. Only a few details are available on the upcoming Netflix show. However, we know that Konietzko and DiMartino are on board on the upcoming live-action project, so we hope that the reboot won't have the same drastic fate as the movie
