'The One' Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

This is a live-update article and it will be updated as new details about The One Season 2 come our way. This is what we know so far.

The One

'The One' introduces us to a futuristic dating service, which uses DNA to find a person's perfect romantic match. The series is based on a book by John Marrs and follows the ambitious but reckless CEO Rebecca, played by Hannah Ware. The first season released 8 episodes with intense cliffhangers, leaving us with a lot of questions. So let's get right into the biggest question, is season 2 happening? Here's what we know.

The One

Is 'The One' Renewed For Season 2?

Short answer: not yet. The streaming giant has not announced the renewal for 'The One' season 2 yet. Netflix reportedly ordered only 8 episodes of the series, which means that a second season is still not underway. The series premiered on Netflix on 12 March 2021. As of this update, there is still no confirmation whether it will return for season 2 or not. We will continue to check out the latest announcements from Netflix.

'The One' was originally billed as a limited series, just like 'The Queen's Gambit'. Limited series don't get second seasons. However, the show's cliffhanging ending made us want to believe that the producers have more plans for the future of the series. Only time can tell if season 2 is really happening or not. However, it is highly likely that the show has been ghost canceled and won't return.

The One

Is There Enough Source Material For Season 2?

Unfortunately, there is no direct sequel to Marrs' book, although Marrs has written many sci-fi stories and crime thrillers similar to 'The One.' If the show gets renewed for season 2, they will have to come up with fresh new material.

When Will 'The One' Season 2 Release?

Season 2 is not confirmed yet, so there is still no release date. We will update this space once we get new details. Feel free to save or bookmark the link to this article.

What Is The Plot Of 'The One' Season 2?

Although the show is not renewed yet, the season 1 ending already left us with some clues about what could happen in season 2. Kate is aware that Rebecca killed Ben, and she is intent on bringing her down. Rebecca is also hiding a big secret, but we don't know what that is yet, aside from the fact that she murdered Ben. We are expecting a big reveal to happen in season 2. And while we know that the DNA system can pair its users with more than one person, that information isn't available to the wider public. Revealing this glitch to more people can be a true game-changer and could reduce Rebecca's empire to rubble.

"Obviously, you've started to see the cracks forming, you see the cracks forming in the characters, but you also see the cracks forming in the actual business model," Tapper told Express.co.uk.

"Because it's had such a global effect, it's as big as a Facebook, people have taken this by storm, taken it on board, and it's changed their lives.”

Hopefully, the second season could also provide a comparison and psychology between relationships that were "matched" and those that got created without the help of Rebecca's technology. We wish Netflix would greenlight the second season now so we could get our answers.

'The One' Season 2 Cast: Who Are Returning?

The show is not renewed for season 2 yet, but based on how season 1 concluded, we already know who among the cast members is coming back. Hannah Ware will certainly return as the ruthless CEO Rebecca Webb. She will most likely get joined by James (Dimitri Leonidas), the co-founder and developer of the science behind the matchmaking service. Other characters we are expecting to return are Kate (Zoe Tapper), Megan (Pallavi Sharda), Sophia (Jana Pérez), and Sebastian (Eduardo Lloveras). Married couple Hannah (Lois Chimimba) and Mark (Eric Kofi-Abrefa) are also likely to come back in season 2.
