The OA Season 3: Everything We Know So Far

There’s something spellbinding about sci-fi dramas that hook us with their storyline for the longest time. This genre of movies and shows is loved by fans because they look ahead to the imminent 21st century that holds a sci-fi future, which is why they love the Netflix Original OA’. Created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, fans have been loyal to the show as they waited over two years for the release of the second season. But now, they want to know whether they should wait again for the third season. Here’s everything we know about the birth of the show’s third installment!

Can We Expect ‘The OA’ Season 3 To Happen?

Bad news, folks! Netflix has officially canceled ‘The OA’. This doesn’t mean that it’s over, though, and can still be renewed by Netflix or picked up by another network (I’m watching you, HBO Max). In an interview with Indiewire, Cindy Holland, who is Netflix’s Vice President of Original Series, confirmed that the story is looking forward to a five-season arc. It is believed that the creators of the series, Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, had initially pitched the five-season plan to Netflix while they were in talks with the streaming giant to produce. Should the series be picked up again, the team is ready to go for another three seasons.

Jason Isaacs (Hunter Aloysius/ Dr. Percy) already spoke about the third season being under development in terms of its writing. In a conversation with RadioTimes.com, Isaacs said, “They’ve got all five seasons mapped out in their head. They did before they started. And that’s one of the reasons, I think, why the show was originally picked up by Netflix. Because they arrived with this thing that was fully formed, it’s their singular voices. It doesn’t bear the stamp of any kind of executive development.”

He added: “I’m so invested in seeing it as a fan that I hope to god that people like the show as much as I do because we’d like to get a season three, four, and five.” There is no point in being greedy for the show that already had a fully-formed story waiting for us! All we can do is, wait patiently!

When Will’ The OA’ Season 3 Air?

Before the cancelation, Isaacs hinted that the show’s production would speed up in the future. “I don’t think it’ll be as long as the [season 2 wait],” He said. Earlier, before the second season dropped in, Marling explained the long production times, “Our chapters vary in length, scope, and even genre,” she said. “There is no pattern. As a result, at every step along the way, nothing can be imitated, it has to be invented.”

Unfortunately, Netflix canceled the show on August 5, 2019, after just two seasons.

What Could’ve Waited For Us In ‘The OA’ Season 3?

We could have expected the third installment to get STRANGER! The production team and the cast are definite about the fact that fans will be left startled by the third storyline. According to Ben-Adir, “I know where it’s going in the next season, which is NUTS! Like, unimaginable! Genuinely! Like, not even in a way I’m trying to sell it – It’s crazy!” he said. “You think it goes there, but then it goes [starts pointing frantically] there and there and then there!” Isaacs added: “Everybody will be rewarded by the time we reach the end of the journey.”

Sadly, despite all the hype from creators and fans alike, the show still got canceled.
