Netflix renewed The Night Agent for season 2 less than a week after the first season premiered. Here's everything we know about it.
The Night Agent was an instant hit for Netflix. The action-packed political thriller is based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk. It stars Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland, an FBI agent who covers phone calls in the basement of the white house. The phone never rings, but one time it does and it propels Sutherland into a whole new world of danger. Are we going to get a second season of this high stakes, and action packed new thriller. Let's explore.
The Night Agent has been officially renewed for season 2. The announcement came less than a week after the premiere of the first season. This was to be expected as the show topped the top ten charts in English Language TV almost immediately after its release. This was a very positive sign for the show and the renewal was inevitable.
"The last week has been a whirlwind as we've finally been able to share The Night Agent with the world," said showrunner creator Shawn Ryan. "To see the tremendous reaction to the show has been a great joy and is a credit to our cast, our writers, our directors, our crew and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix. We couldn't be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on Season 2 to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans.""
The Night Agent Season 2 was immediately renewed but the streaming giant has yet to announce the release date. We expect a 2024 release.
The book that the show is based on is a standalone novel so there is no more source material for the second season. However, we can probably expect the second season to continue following the adventures of FBI agent Peter Sutherland in the basement of the White House.
We can expect Gabriel Basso to return as Peter Sutherland. The other cast members are currently up in the air. Luciane Buchanan may possibly return as tech CEO Rose Larkin. But it's difficult to see how she will fit into the new storyline. Hong Chau may also return as White House chief of staff Diane Farr.
