Netflix‘s erotic movie series just dropped its third installment and fans are a bit disappointed with its ending.
365 Days released its third installment, The Next 365 Days. With a cliffhanger ending of the second installment, the movie kept its audience caught up. The movie follows a steamy romance between Massimo and Laura where Massimo is a mob boss. Continuing with the same plot line the second installment introduces another character Nacho (Simone Susinna), Laura’s other love interest, and the third and final film sees her struggle to choose between them. Throughout The Next 365 Days, Laura basically goes back and forth between Massimo and Nacho. While Laura is still married to Massimo, she also has serious feelings for Nacho. And at the end of the film, viewers are left in the dark over who she eventually chooses.
The plot of The Next 365 Days
The Next 365 Days take place after the not-so-happy ending where Laura almost dies in an encounter with Anna and Massimo’s twin brother, Adriano. The last scene of 365: This Day brings all 5 (Massimo, Anna, Laura, Adriano, and Nacho) into the frame. All 5 point guns at each other, where Anna and Adriano end up dying and Laura is injured. The third installment picks up from here, where Laura has fully recovered from her gunshot wound, and beyond a few mentions, it’s never brought up again.
The third installment tests Masimo and Laura’s relationship to the brim. Nacho being Laura’s other love interest, things are for a toss between them. Laura then has a flashback to the island and it’s unclear if she hooked up with Nacho or not. Laura finally falls asleep and dreams of having sex with Nacho, but when she wakes up, it’s Massimo in her bed. She clams up and says it’s a hangover, but Massimo is convinced she’s hiding something.
Laura and Massimo obviously still have some sexy times, but after they fight over Laura not telling Massimo she lost their baby (at the end of the first movie), they couldn’t be further apart. Both disappear into their work, Massimo with his gangster life and Laura with her fashion brand. Together with Olga, Laura heads to Portugal to attend the Lagos fashion fair where she runs into Nacho’s sister Amelia. She persuades Laura to give Nacho time to explain himself, insisting he’s not a bad person, he’s “just loyal to his father”.
Then Laura runs into Nacho where they end up having a moment and things get steamed up. He then confesses his love for her and drives her to a random house that may or may not be his. They have a dramatic conversation on the beach that quickly leads to sex on the beach. Unlike Massimo, Nacho is more than happy to let Laura make her own decisions. He even tells her that he saved Massimo’s life by killing Anna at the end of the sequel “because you love him”.
I don’t want my happiness at the cost of your suffering. I want you to want me… I will wait for you, until you’re ready,” Nacho tells Laura, promising to give her the time to decide what she really wants. Laura heads back to the hotel where an angry Masimo was waiting for her. Laura brings up that she’s close to asking for a divorce, which obviously enrages Massimo. Laura asks Massimo for space to figure out what she wants. He complies.
Laura returns to her parent’s place and talks to her mother about her situation and confesses she doesn’t know what to do. Her mother gives her advice that she “must be selfish in a relationship”, adding: “If you put your own happiness first, you’ll do whatever it takes to make it last.”
After a fantasy threesome with Massimo and Nacho (where they both kiss too), Laura heads back to Sicily when she’s warned by Olga that Massimo knows about Laura’s sexytimes with Nacho. Olga wants her to run, but Laura says she won’t be scared of Massimo.
The Next 365 Days, Ending Explained:
When Laura arrives in Sicily, Nacho has disguised himself as her driver, to his great peril. Nacho confesses that he didn’t love Laura at first sight, but came to fall in love with her anger, stubbornness, and all her other quirks. He says that she taught him how to be best friends with your lover. Nacho wants to give Laura everything. To this, Laura says she needs to speak to Massimo, adding she can’t stay in that situation anymore, but she needs more time. Nacho says he will wait.
Massimo is waiting for Laura on the beach, but instead of being full of rage, he’s surprisingly philosophical. He actually knew about Nacho all along and is regretful that Laura felt she couldn’t come to him when she lost their baby: “That you had to deal with it all alone, it has destroyed me. When I was a child, my dad used to read me a book. I still remember one sentence, a little parable. I didn’t really understand it back then. But now I do. ‘If you really love something, just let it go. If it comes back, it’s yours forever. If it doesn’t, it was never meant to be’,” he recalls.
Laura tells Massimo he had a “wonderful father” and says that he will be too “one day” and as they stare longingly at each other, Massimo asks: “Are you back, baby girl?” And that is where the movie ends.
So, does that mean Laura is actually ready to be back with Massimo? Does she go back to Nacho? It’s up to you, as the viewer, to decide. Either that, or there will be a 365 Days 4 at some point.
