It seems that after Hugh Jackman's perfect potrayal of Wolverine it has become a dream role for many. A lot of fans have also been dream casting the role and one name is drawing a lot of attention.
Fans of the X-Men began a petition on Change.org to influence the decisions of Disney and Marvel Studios. What are their demands?
Well, the petition comes courtesy of Ring Arius who is petitioning that Danny DeVito, known for his roles as the Penguin in Batman and Frank Reynolds in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, to become the next Wolverine in the wake of Hugh Jackman’s retirement.
Considering the fact that the X-Men and characters like Wolverine could be seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Disney acquired them from Fox it seems very unlikely that DeVito could be the next Logan. It’s even difficult to imagine DeVito donning claws and a skin-tight suit to march out and defend the multiverse from the unspeakable horrors that may pop up after or during the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home premiering in July.
Despite all this, the petition is blazing full speed ahead surpassing its initial 1000 signature goal with now over 19,000 signatures at the time of writing.
Ring Arius stated:
The only man able to take the throne after Hugh Jackman. We believe that if Wolverine is to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that the only man able to pull it off is Danny [DeVito].
Online petitions, especially by fans of movies and series are seeming to become more and more popular. It may be an attempt for attention from some megafans trying to influence multimillion-dollar decisions or a way for small or large groups of people within a fandom to express displeasure at some aspect of the movie, series or cast. Currently, there are petitions to remake the season 8 of Game of Thrones, to remove Brie Larson from her role as Captain Marvel and to replace Robert Pattinson as the new Batman. So it would make sense if Ring Arius created this petition to poke fun at this newly emerging trend, it's sensible but very unlikely.
So with actors like John Wick's Keanu Reeves vying for the role of Wolverine in the multiverse, would you chose Danny DeVito?
