“Your grandchild.”
“My grandchild. Megan’s first born.”
“And what do I have to do with that?” I asked.
“You are the last person who see her. So I assume that you know where she is. If you help me find my daughter I will make sure that you get well taken care of. You and my daughter seem to like each other so if you help me find her you know I might even make you the father of my grandchild. You never know.” Jeremy said.
“And what make you think Megan would want that?” I started. “Heck, what makes you think I would want that?”
“Because I could make you a very happy man Jed. The world of riches will be yours. You will be a God to the world. A God amongst kings and peasants. They will worship you and be slaves to your command. They will build monuments in your name just like they did for the pharaohs in ancient Egypt. We will be slave masters born and raised in the Caribbean. Oh how the tables will turn.”
To be honest, I was actually considering the offer. Why wouldn’t I be? I would be only a stone’s throw away from death any other way. But I would die a useless death if I didn’t do anything after the world went to hell. I was stricken with the dilemma and I could have easily chosen Jeremy’s way but there was one major problem; I didn’t know where Megan was.
“So what is it Jed? My way or the highway? I don’t think you would last too long out there again especially if you’re infected and sickly. Don’t let me have to do something I don’t want to Jed. Where’s Megan?”
“And Melanie?” I interjected.
“Yes yes. And Melanie,” he said, clearly forgetting about her.
His eyes blackened. The pupils dilated so much that they appeared to occupy his entire socket.
It scared me for a second. “Your eyes.” I said pointing his attention to it.
Jeremy shook his head and blinked a couple times until his eyes returned to normal. “It does do that sometimes.” There was a notable change in his voice, it was deeper in tone. “Where is Megan?!” He shouted with a deep demon-like voice that shook me to a point where I couldn’t stop shaking.
I looked at the time on a digital clock on the wall. I breathed a slight sigh of relief when I realized that it was only 7:22am.
He cleared his throat then asked again, this time a bit less beastly, “Where is Megan?”
I still had no idea where Megan was. I didn’t think Megan and the rest of the crew would have stayed at the Caura River. They would have clearly moved on. The only person that was with me at the moment of meeting the Midnight Robber in Caura was Sara.
“I’ll tell you where your daughters are under one condition,” I said.
Jeremy laughed a little then said. “And that is?”
“I get to see Sara. Dead or alive. I want to see her.”
“So be it,” Jeremy said.
“Your daughter’s at Mas Camp,” I lied. “Me and Sara were on our way to meet them when we got stuck in some trouble in Caura.”
“Hmmm.”
“Yeah,” I said, unsure if he caught on to my lie.
He shoved two of his fingers in his mouth and whistled. Two blue devils and Dee Baba came into the room. “Dee Baba. We need to gather our troops and get ready to go to Mas Camp. They have my daughter. We leave tomorrow at midnight.”
“Aye Aye Captain.” Dee Baba saluted then marched out the room.
“As for you two blue devils. I want allyuh to take young Jedakiah to the jail cells to meet prisoner number 334. Make sure that he is tied up and don’t let him out of your sight. He is very dangerous.”
I was dangerous?
Jeremy turned to me with his eyes blackened again. “You better not be lying to me boy.”
I gulped.
Jeremy then marched out the room after Dee Baba. The two blue devils handcuffed me from behind and poked me with their pitchforks leading me out of the room.
