“Why not?” I asked.
“I don’t know you Jed. I couldn’t care less if you rot and die out here. But Sara-Lee is like a sister to me and I’m not going to let you hurt her,” Jack said.
“What makes you think that I’ll hurt…?”
“I know you killed these people Jed. I know you slaughtered them all,” Jack interrupted. “I don’t know what the Midnight Robber do to you back in the Red House but you’re now a weapon of mass destruction and I can’t have Sara-Lee around you. Unless you decide to come to Mas Camp then maybe we could work something out. We could treat you and make you normal again Jed,” Jack slowly walked up to me.
“You’re lying. As soon as I let my guard down you’re going to kill me,” I said. I then pulled out the gun from my waist and pointed it at Jack. At that moment, everyone except Sara and I drew their swords.
“Don’t take another step unless you want to see whose weapon is the quickest,” I said.
Jack stopped then turned his attention to Sara who was standing next to me. “You’re making a big mistake Sara-Lee. The Sara-Lee I know would never do something as stupid as put her life in the hands of one man.”
Sara didn’t respond.
I turned to her and said. “You don’t have to come with me if you don’t want to.”
“Did you kill these people Jed?” She asked me, looking me deep in the eye.
“No,” I answered, staring back.
“Then I’m not leaving you,” she smiled. “And I’m just as interested in finding the others as you are. I can’t leave knowing that Justin and Saraya could still be alive.”
“She made her choice. She’s staying with me,” I said.
“Sara-Lee, maybe they are in Mas Camp. We could find them there and we might be able to save them from the Midnight Robber if we leave in time,” Jinx said.
“I’m not going to Mas Camp,” Sara said.
Jinx was about to speak again but Jack told her to save it then he said. “Sara-Lee is too stubborn to change her mind. We have to leave. Our people need us.”
“But what will happen if midnight come and Jed changes? Then what?” Jinx asked Sara.
“I’ll take my chances,” Sara said.
“I’ll take my chances too,” Ronald said, walking up to Sara and me.
Jinx sighed, shook her head, hesitated for a while then walked up to us and said. “I’ll take my chances too.”
“Well then. I guess this is goodbye,” Jack said.
“I guess so,” Jinx said.
