I burst through the door and into a herd of jumbies who were walking by. I pushed them away, flinging them into the air as though they were weightless. There were a lot of the jumbies around but every one of them that came at me got flung into the air. I ran and ran and ran and didn’t stop. My movements were quick and I covered a lot of distance in a short space of time. I reached the Caura forest and ran through without growing tired. The moon was in the sky and I knew that it was night but the place looked bright as day. I saw everything; the green trees, the animals and even the douens that played in the forest.
On my way through the forest I met up with a large concrete wall that towered about 30 feet in the air. I was thinking to myself that I would never be able to climb it but I leaped over the 30 foot wall with little effort. On the other side of the wall there were houses and people walking about and between them. I felt relieved seeing so many living humans but I had no control of my body so what happened next completely surprised me. Using my bare hands I murdered every single person in the village; ripping off their heads, tearing them limb from limb and smashing them into walls and trees. I heard them all screaming and crying for help but I showed them no mercy as I left not one person breathing or a heart left pumping. My body became drenched in their blood and I showed no discrimination as men, women, children and animals were all murdered as though they were all the same but I saw their faces of agony and despair right before they drew their last breaths and the images stained my brain like the blood on my skin. They tried to defend themselves with guns but all it did was slow me down. I felt the pressure of the bullets as they ricocheted off of me but like a beast I stayed vigilant till they were all dead.
It all felt real but I woke up the next morning in the same place I was when I blacked out; on the floor in the middle of the corridor in the mall. I tried to get up but my body wouldn’t let me. I was drained and sweating. I felt like I had just run a mile, my head felt light and my muscles were sore but I mustered up enough strength to sit upright. The faces of the people in my “dream” right before I killed them still played over and over in my head with their loud screams of torment. I tried to shake the morbid thoughts but my brain wouldn’t let me.
“What happened to your shirt?” Jordan, who was now coming back from a food run in the mall, asked.
I wasn’t sure what he was talking about at first because I was still in a bit of a daze but when I looked down at my shirt I saw the problem. It was drenched in blood and ripped up. I didn’t know where the blood came from but I just told him that I was fighting some jumbies.
“But you was drunk last night,” Jordan said. “There’s no way you coulda take out a jumbie.”
“Well I did.”
“Not even Jack could take out a jumbie while drunk and he’s stronger than all of us. Don’t bullshit me this hour. What happened to your shirt?”
“I told you already. Some jumbies jumped me and I killed them.”
“So where are the bodies?” Jordan asked.
“I can’t remember.”
“Hmmm,” Jordan looked suspicious, looking at me keenly. “I’m watching you.”
“Do what you need to do.”
He then walked away through the door of Bill’s Bar. There wasn’t any noise coming from the room so I assumed everyone was still sleeping. I checked the time on the bloodstained watch on my hand and it was 6:22am. It was still early.
I inspected the blood on my clothes. It was everywhere. My shirt was basically a different color and my palms were reddened with blood. I couldn’t let the others see me like this. Jordan was already suspicious of me and I really wasn’t prepared to explain myself to the others.
I forced myself up, went back to the gym and washed up. I then went into a clothes store and swiped a shirt, a pair of jeans and a pair of boots. From the clothes store I went straight to a grocery store, got some stuff to eat then headed back to the bar.
When I got back to the bar I met everyone preparing themselves by throwing as much things in their bags as possible. There was a lot of water in the fridges. Sara threw me a bottle of water then said, “You will need this.”
“Thanks.”
“You changed your clothes?” Sara asked.
“Yeah, the other set was dirty. I just picked up anything I found that was comfortable. It’s not about style but comfort, you know.”
Sara laughed.
I looked at Jordan who looked at me with a snarky eye of suspicion.
