“It’s not your fault,” Megan comforted.
“What are we going to do now?” Rajiv asked.
“Didn’t you say your family is living in San Fernando?” I asked Rajiv.
“Yeah.”
“Well, let’s go there and warn them. They could be next.”
“Are you crazy? If we go there, we bound to get killed,” Rajiv said.
“Or not,” I said. “What other choice do we have? You want to stay here?”
“Well, if that is what it takes to keep us alive, then why not,” Rajiv said, “You see what those things are capable of doing. If they find us, we are good as dead.”
I must admit his reasoning was pretty convincing, and it made me question my own reasoning, but at the end of the day, we couldn’t just sit around and do nothing, right? It wouldn’t feel right if we did that. It wouldn’t feel right if we just lay around while the rest of our people die an untimely death.
“Whatever you do. Do the noble thing,” My father’s voice in my head said.
“We can’t just lay around and do nothing, Rajiv,” Megan retorted, almost as if she heard what my dad’s voice in my head said. “The least we could do is warn them. We don’t know if the news has reached them yet. This happened real sudden, and nobody was expecting it. But we could warn them because we know what they could expect. If we warn them, then maybe we could prevent another tragedy,” Megan reasoned.
I was really proud of her for answering the way she did. She basically vocalized everything that was in my head.
“I like her,” I said to Rajiv wittingly
“Well, she is mine.”
Megan obviously got a boost in pride as she heard us two. You could see all the blood flowing to her cheeks as she tried to hold back a blush.
“And I always will be,” Megan said to Rajiv.
I scoffed.
“So what’s the plan?” I asked.
“Didn’t you say we’re going to San Fernando? Well, let’s go then,” Rajiv said. “I hope that your van has enough gas because it’s a long drive from here to Sando.”
“Don’t stress out yourself too much. We’ll reach,” I said.
“If we die, just remember that I warned you all,” Rajiv stated.
“I will definitely remember that,” I laughed.
I was the first to start walking, but as soon as I turned outside the kitchen, I noticed two metal balls floating around in the living room. I quickly went back into the kitchen and told the rest to stay quiet.
“What happened?” Megan whispered.
“Shhhhh!” I said with my index finger over my lips.
I then pointed toward an old frying pan that was located in the sink and signaled Megan to give it to me. She gave me the frying pan, and I held it firmly in my hand, waiting until it became useful. I heard mechanical noises in the living room, and they sounded as if they were getting closer and closer. I peeked around the corner and saw the two metallic balls floating around the place in search of something. The metal balls were silver in color and were about the size of average basketballs. The top of the balls seemed to spin, and the bottom was motionless. The top and bottom were separated by a transparent plastic that blinked green ever so often. It was an amazing piece of technology, but it was not the time to admire it. The tops of the two metal balls abruptly stopped spinning, and I quickly went back into hiding, fearing it might have spotted me. The place went silent. Melanie was holding on to her sister, trembling in fear. Who am I kidding? We all were trembling in fear. Unknown objects were floating around in the living room, and we didn’t know what they wanted. The uncertainty was killing me. I wanted to know what was happening. I slowly peeked around the corner into the living room, and the metal balls were gone. I was a bit relieved but still terrified because I didn’t have a clue what was going to happen next. A few seconds passed, and there was no sign of the metal balls.
I dropped the old frying pan in my hand on the kitchen counter, and as soon as I did, one of the metal balls came rushing around the corner toward us, causing all of us to scream in fear. I quickly picked back up the old frying pan and swung it at the metal ball.
Bong!
