The Midnight Club Season 2

From the creator of hit horror shows like Midnight Mass and Haunting of Hill House comes a new open-ended show called The Midnight Club. Creators, Mike Flanagan and Leah Fong prefer keeping the ends for the audience's interpretation and this show is no different as it ends with a full-blown cliffhanger. The drama concludes its 10 episodes first season with just a few questions answered which means there's plenty left for the coming season to unpack. While we wait for Netflix to renew the show, here's everything we know about it so far...

We regret to inform you that Netflix has decided not to renew "The Midnight Club" for a second season due to low viewership, according to The Wrap. Director Mike Flanagan expressed his disappointment and frustration on social media, revealing that many story threads were left unresolved with the hope of a second season. In a blog post on Tumblr, Flanagan shared his insights into a hypothetical second season and expressed his gratitude towards the cast and crew.

“It’s a shame we won’t get to make it, but it would be a bigger shame if you guys simply had to live with the unanswered questions and the cliffhanger ending. I loved making this show, and I am so proud of the cast and crew. Particularly our cast, who attacked this story with incredible spirit and bravery each and every day. But for now, we’ll put the fire out, and leave the library dark and quiet. To those before, and to those after. To us now, and to those beyond. Seen or unseen, here but not here. I’ll always be grateful that I got to be part of this Club.”

He also mentioned that he and Trevor Macy, who had been working with Netflix, are now collaborating with Amazon Studios for their final project with Netflix, "The Fall of the House of Usher," set to release in 2023. The "Flanaverse" on Netflix will come to a close with this project.

What's The Plot Of Midnight Club?

The show is based on the 1994 novel of the same name by Christopher Pike and his later works. The story follows a group of terminally ill teenagers who are living under one roof, which is a facility called Brightscliffe Hospice that has been made to house ill youth. Every midnight the teenagers assemble in the spooky library of the facility to swap horror stories. One such night they make a pact that whoever dies first will give the rest of the group a message from the beyond so that they know for sure that there's an afterlife. One of them soon dies and what follows is a series of strange occurrences that are far more sinister than the teenagers had envisioned. The story is extremely scary and holds a Guinness World Record for most scripted jumpscares in a single episode which is 21 in total.

Writing on Twitter a fan said, "I truly hope Mike Flanagan wins an Emmy for the episode "Anya", I have never cried like this through an episode of tv."

What Could We Expect From Another Season of The Midnight Club?

The first season ended with a major cliffhanger, as mentioned before... revealing that Doctor Stanton is not only a survivor but the tattoo on her neck means she is a former member of the Paragon. So it's no secret that we are expecting to see the character's backstory fleshed out in full. As for the other two members, Ilonka and Kevin are the two current members of the Midnight Club who can see the ghost couple of Brightcliff. So, it's safe to say that the second season might reveal the reason behind their seeing the ghost couple. On the other hand, Shasta, aka Julia Jayne, failed in her attempt to conduct the ritual in the attic, almost killing three young women in the process. So, we might see another attempt at the ritual, maybe a successful one this time. So it's pretty clear that the second season has lots to unveil unfortunately the show has been cancelled.
