Will There Be 'The Haunting' Season 3?

The Haunting anthology series will not be returning for a third season. The news was confirmed on May 3rd, 2023 by Mike Flanagan himself while answering a fan question on Tumblr. He stated that he will not be working on any more seasons of The Haunting. He will also not be moving forward with projects on Netflix as he has moved to Amazon now. His last project on Netflix is the upcoming "The Fall of the House of Usher."

The famed director also said that he's happier working on new projects. He said:

I’m much happier focusing on other things… and being that I’m no longer at Netflix, that ship has definitively sailed. There will not be a season 3.

In its first week on Netflix, The Haunting of Bly Manor managed to sit in the number one spot in the US and multiple regions worldwide.

We all know how Netflix values viewership records when it comes to deciding whether to renew a show or not. It seems like the decision to cancel The Haunting series was a personal decision by Flanagan.

What Happened In 'The Haunting of Bly Manor?' Ending Explained

Dani’s sacrifice broke the curse that Viola Willoughby had placed on Bly Manor. After allowing Viola to inhabit her body, all of the ghostly residents of Bly Manor, including Peter, Rebecca, and Hannah, were finally allowed to pass on.

The survivors of Bly Manor tried their best to move on with their lives. Owen opened a restaurant to honor Hannah’s memory, while Lord Henry moved to America with Miles and Flora. When the three survivors reunited at Owen's restaurant, it was revealed that Flora and Miles do not remember what happened in the Bly Manor.

Despite Viola inhabiting her body, Dani managed to spend happy years with Jaime. The couple also moved to America and ran their flower shop. However, as the years went by, Dani started losing control of herself. She woke up one night with her hand around Jaime's neck.

Afraid that she would hurt the woman she truly loves, she decided to run away, leaving Jaime desperately searching for her.

Jaime's search led her back to Bly Manor, at the bottom of the lake. There she saw the tragic fate that awaits Dani.

Dani has now taken the place of Viola as the new Lady of The Lake. She asked for Dani to take her soul too, so that she may be with her forever. However, unlike Viola, Dani would never claim a single soul. Dani's doomed to suffer the same fate as Viola, she's bound to forget herself and her beloved memories.

Before the show concluded, we found out that the narrator of the story was an older Jaimie, and the bride of the wedding she's attending is now a 30-year-old Flora.

We also found out that the guests were the older versions of Owen, Miles, and Henry.

Jaime returned to her hotel room and left her door slightly open. She fills the bath and sink with water, hoping for Dani to emerge and find her.

Finding no signs that the love of her life is there, Jaime rested in a chair and closed her eyes.

Finally, after long years of waiting, we see Dani's hand resting on Jaime's shoulder. This means that Dani still remembers and loves Jaime, proving love has transcended beyond Viola's curse.
