'The Handmaid’s Tale' Season 5: Everything We Know So Far

The renewal of the fifth season came much before the fourth season even aired and here's everything you need to know about it.

The Handmaid's Tale has been renewed for another season as the fourth season ended with more questions than answers. Hulu has confirmed that the dystopian series based on Margaret Atwood's novel of the same name is coming back for another season.

Show creator Bruce Miller told The Hollywood Reporter: "We're very grateful to Hulu and MGM that the show will be returning for a fifth season, and especially to our loyal fans for their support. We are thrilled to be able to continue to tell these stories with our incredible cast and crew and can't wait to be back on the air with season four next year." This renewal, however, came much before the fourth season even aired. Here's everything you need to know about the fifth season.

What Is The Plot Of The Handmaid's Tale Season 5?

The details about the plot are not that clear yet. After the conclusion of the fourth season, the writers have started the process of working on the story for the fifth season. There was even speculation that the fifth season of The Handmaid's Tale would be the last. Jordan Helman, Head of Scripted Originals at Hulu, was quick to clarify that.

"The success of The Handmaid's Tale remains paramount for us," Helman told Deadline. "That said, what is also most important to us is that we close out that show in a creative fashion that feels organic so we are in constant communication, literally right now, talking with Bruce [Miller], Lizzie [Moss] and Warren [Littlefield], about what the best way to end The Handmaid's Tale is. We haven't landed on an answer… I imagine we're going to be able to answer that question in the coming months."

There are even talks about adapting the sequel to the original work, The Testament, that was released in 2019.

Who Is Cast In The Handmaid's Tale Season 5?

Most of the cast is expected to reprise their roles. This includes:

• Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne
• Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy Waterford
• Alexis Bledel as Emily
• Madeline Brewer as Janine
• Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia

• OT Fagbenle as Luke
• Max Minghella as Nick
• Samira Wiley as Moira
• Bradley Whitford as Commander Lawrence
• Amanda Brugel as Rita

When Will The Handmaid's Tale Season 5 Release?

There is no clear date set for the release of the next season. But Season 5 may be coming to Hulu in 2022 either in the summer or fall.
