‘The Ghost Bride’ Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

‘The Ghost Bride’ is a Taiwanese-Malaysian Netflix original series that creatively incorporates Chinese urban legends (like the 3000-year-old ghost wedding tradition) and supernatural twists into an ardent love triangle. The series is based on the best-selling novel of an esteemed author Choo Yangsze and was adapted to the screen by celebrated Taiwanese-American writer Wu Kai Yu. After releasing six episodes in early 2020, let’s find out what’s in store for the series.

Will There Be ‘The Ghost Bride’ Season 2?

As of this writing, The Ghost Bride is yet to be renewed for season 2. The series arrived on the streaming giant on 23 January 2020.

It’s been over three years since the show’s release, so we are already a little uncertain of the show’s status.

From where the story left out in season one, there is certainly room for more episodes. Hopefully, the show gets a second season.

When Will ‘The Ghost Bride’ Season 2 Arrive On Netflix?

The show is not renewed for season 2 yet. Season one arrived on Netflix in January 2020. Netflix often renews popular series at least a month after their release.

Assuming the show finally gets renewed in 2023, then season 2 is most likely arriving in late 2024.

We will keep you posted with updates.

Who Will Be In The Cast Of ‘The Ghost Bride’ Season 2?

The series is yet to get renewed. However, the main cast members are likely to reprise their roles should there be season 2.

They are Huang Pei-jia as the ghost bride, Pan Li-lan. She is joined by Wu Kang-jen, as a 500-year-old deity, Er-lang. Ludi Lin is also likely to return as Lim Tian-bai, Li-lan’s childhood friend.

Meanwhile, we are uncertain if Kuang Tian, who plays Lim Tian-ching (the Lims’ deceased son whom Li-lan marries) will return following season one’s episode finale where he was taken to judgment.

The Plot: What Will Likely Happen In ‘The Ghost Bride’ Season 2?

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Set in1890s Malacca, The Ghost Bride follows the story of Li-lan, a young woman who is asked to marry Tian-ching, a deceased son of a wealthy family. An unfortunate circumstance forced Li-lan to engage in an agreement with Tian-ching to save her father, who is stuck in the Netherworld.

Their agreement was pretty simple. Tian-ching will help Li-lan’s father’s soul return to his body before 10 days, and Li-lan must find out who killed Tian-ching.

While investigating, Li-lan meets Er-lang, the 500-year-old diety and immortal heavenly guard sent to investigate why Tian-ching has not reported for judgment, suspecting that Tian-ching is bribing the guards to let him wander.

Towards the end of season one, Tian-ching’s killer was revealed and arrested. Tian-ching was finally taken to judgment. Meanwhile, Li-lan turns down a marriage proposal from Tian-bai. Realizing she’s in love with Er-lang, she leaves to join him in his missions.

Just as they were about to leave, Er-lang rolls up his sleeves, revealing poison marks spreading in his arm. This means he is living between life and death.

If the show gets renewed for season 2, we are expecting to see Er-lang and Li-lan solve more mysteries together. The two must also find a way to save Er-lang from the poison that’s threatening his existence.
