It seems likely that if you live outside of the US you won't be able to see the Friends Reunion Special
The Friends sitcom is making a big return in a reunion special that will feature all six of the stars. The entire world rejoiced at the news but sadly, it may only be available in the US.
The reunion special will be available to stream on HBO Max and sadly, this new streaming platform is exclusive to the US. This brought much disappointment to many fans as their dreams have been crushed. It's even going to be quite a struggle for the UK citizens to see the special because of HBO's agreement with Sky.
I want to know if the Friends Reunion will air in the Uk 🤷🏻♀️🤔❤️ pic.twitter.com/PHswGTpB4y— Jenny Met Seb Stan (@Jenzzyuk) February 22, 2020
In October last year, HBO and Warner Bros. renewed their ‘multi-year programming partnership’ with Sky. This partnership will see many programs portioned out to Sky Atlantic and Now TV. Shows like Chernobyl and Game of Thrones made their way to the UK through this partnership. However, there is still no confirmation as to whether the Special will be available on Sky Atlantic.
Fans outside of the US can only wait for any news of its release worldwide which at the moment doesn't seem likely. The Reunion Special is being used as a way to promote HBO Max throughout the US when it is released in May. It is what some are describing as a "very expensive ad" for HBO Max.
also, HBO have already confirmed they have no plans to launch HBO Max in the UK. So it probably won’t be available here, because, as you say, it’s purely a *very* expensive ad for the new service.— Robin Edds (@robinedds) February 22, 2020
This doesn't rule out all hope for fans outside of the US. With such a high demand for the show, HBO can easily find a way to make money from it down the road. They have already spent $425 million for the rights to the sitcom and one can bet that they want to make that money back.
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry have all signed on to the reunion special. It is unclear what it's going to actually be about. Given that it's unscripted it will likely be an interview type program. Or maybe not. We don't know much about it right now.
If the Friends Reunion Special isn't available outside of the US will you fly to the US just to see it? Trick question....Of course, you will!
