The Latest Trailer Of 'Lighthouse' Is Disturbing To Say The Least

The jarring black and white trailer seem to depict the story of two men skulking through obscure corridors, drinking unknown spirits dancing like maniacs and grappling with each other, and presumably laid down some secrets.

A24 had recently released the riveting first trailer for 'The Lighthouse' and it looks absolutely spine-chilling. The horror movie is being directed by Robert Eggers, and is pegged as the long-awaited follow-up to his incredible 2016 debut 'The Witch. It stars  Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe and spins a murky, fantastical horror tale. In the trailer, William Dafoe is heard asking a bearded, reclusive lighthouse keeper, "Keeping secret are you?" The secret keeper is  Robert Pattinson as we see in the trailer. The trailer has a hallucinatory psychological thriller vibe to it and looks extremely spine-chilling.

Set during a time period, which is just before the turn of the 20th century; Pattinson’s character, apparently “on the run,” joins Dafoe on the shores of a remote Maine island and they stay in the lighthouse before the madness is going to creep in. The jarring black and white trailer seem to depict the story of two men skulking through obscure corridors, drinking unknown spirits dancing like maniacs and grappling with each other, and presumably laid down some secrets.

The movie is co-written by Eggers and his brother, Max, and shot on 35-millimeter film. The movie has enjoyed a lot of critical acclaim after being named the best movie at Cannes’ Critics Week and Directors’ Fortnight by the International Federation of Film Critics. In fact, the movie is so good that there are rumors about making it to Oscar nominations as well.

Eggers told Deadline Studio attendees at Cannes the film was “something a little weirder” than his 2015 debut feature and the movie is even more dreadful than any other horror movies. Dafoe talked to Variety and said he movie as “a little like Hitchcock” that it also has “a certain amount of humor.” After being premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, the movie is also going to make a debut at the Toronto Film Festival. 'The Lightkeeper' opens across the US on October 18, 2019.
