The English Game is a Netflix Original Football period drama. The show follows the development of English Football from an amateur sport to the sport it is today and all the drama that unfolded within those years. It was created by Julian Fellowes, the same mind behind Downton Abbey. But are we going to see more football in The English Game Season 2? Let’s explore.
Will The English Game Be Returning For Season 2?
The English Game unfortunately will not be returning for a second season. The show has been listed as a miniseries, which usually means that the show was only designed with one season in mind. Netflix is quite strict when it comes to keeping limited series as limited series, despite the show’s popularity. So I wouldn’t hold my breath for another season.
It is, however, quite possible that the show may get a few spin-off series.
The Controversial Inaccuracy In The English Game.
The English Game was a dramatic historical ride. However, there was one particular historical plot that was not the most accurate and some Blackburn Olympic fans may not appreciate it. In the show, we get to experience the FA Cup final between Old Etonians and Blackburn Olympic. But Fergus Suter never played for Blackburn Olympic. He played for Blackburn Rovers. Fergus Suter joined Blackburn Rovers in 1880 and took part in the 1882 FA Cup final against the Old Etonians. His team lost 1-0. Suter went on to win three FA Cup medals with Blackburn Rovers in 1884, 1885, and 1886. However, he never had another chance to play against the Old Etonians in the FA Cup final.
It should also be noted that Blackburn Olympic always played with blue and white kits, never Claret. Claret (and blue) is the color of the Lancashire team’s rivals Burnley.
