The Decameron chronicles the quest of a group of aristocrats and their attendants to reach Villa Santa safely despite the Black Death’s impending menace.
Tanya Reynolds, Zosia Mamet, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Leila Farzad, and numerous others lead the ensemble in the series. On July 25, 2024 it became available on Netflix. But can we expect more episodes? Here’s everything we know so far.
Has The Decameron Been Renewed For Season 2?
The Decameron’s future and the possible release of Season 2 were discussed by showrunner Kathleen Jordan in an interview with TV Insider. She hinted at a potential “that’s more of an anthology” edition that would highlight both the new and surviving characters:
“Anything is possible. I love the characters on the show. I also think that there is a version in the future that’s more of an anthology where we take the players in a repertory theater and bring them to 16th-century France for a little touch of syphilis. We can never run out of diseases.”
At the conclusion of Season 1, a servant named Licisca (played by Tanya Reynolds) survives the Black Death and reveals that her master, Filomena, is actually her half-sister.
Reynolds expressed her desire to see Licisca “in some position of power” rather than as a servant in a possible Season 2 in an interview with StyleCaster.
“I’ve always seen the show as a limited series because it ends and it’s not open in its ending. But I would love to do a second season because we all had so much fun. I would love to see Licisca in some position of power.”
What Could We Expect In The Decameron Season 2?
Even though The Decameron is marketed as a limited series, showrunner Kathleen Jordan’s optimistic update regarding a prospective Season 2 offers a lot of intriguing story possibilities, particularly in light of her remarks regarding a possible anthology.
Due to various circumstances, such as the Black Death pandemic and being killed by mercenaries, half of the key leads in Season 1 do not survive.
As the pandemic continues, the survivors depart the Villa Santa at the end of The Decameron. Despite the disease, they may still be seen having fun and laughing in the Italian forests.
An anthology approach is good if Season 2 is produced because it gives other characters more attention and may even focus on a new plague or time period.
Focusing on new characters at a different place is another way that The Decameron’s prospective sophomore season could demonstrate a novel approach. A crossover with the original Season 1 characters can also result by doing this.
