The CW's 'Dynasty' Season 6: Has It Been Renewed Or Cancelled?

The CW's 'Dynasty' Season 6: Has It Been Renewed Or Cancelled?

The show has been airing since 2017 and is the modern-day reboot of the '80s classic series.

Dynasty is a drama series based on the 1980s soap opera of the same name. It has been airing on The CW since 2017 and follows the story of two of America's richest families as they plot and compete against each other to seize control of the family fortune while also trying to control the lives of their children.

The show has won a People's Choice Awards as the best Revival Show of 2018. Since then it has been renewed for four more seasons with the fifth season currently being aired. The latest season premiered on December 20, 2021, with a two-hour special and will have 22 episodes. What can we expect from the future of the show? Find out here:

Will There Be Season 6 Of Dynasty?

The CW has been on a canceling spree and many of its most popular shows have not been renewed. This, unfortunately, also includes Dynasty. The CW opted not to renew the show that is in its fifth season. According to Deadline, the show was not in a good place to snag a renewal on account of its disappointing ratings. Its previous renewals of the show as well as that of 4400, had been motivated by the money the series generated for CBS Studios through the show’s Netflix deal.

Dynasty is not the only show that has been axed by The CW. It has also canceled, Batwoman, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, In the Dark, Roswell: New Mexico, 4400, Naomi, Legacies, and Charmed.

What Is In Store For Dynasty's Future?

The original '80s soap opera had a total of nine seasons. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, creators of Gossip Girl, got together with Sallie Patrick,  writer-producer of Revenge along with the original series’ creators, husband-and-wife duo Esther Shapiro and Richard Shapiro, for a new modern-day reboot of the classic series. This means a few things were changed by the creators and the show was made more inclusive.

Despite everything, the show suffered from a dip in viewership. It would seem whether or not The CW was in the process of being acquired by station owner Nexstar, the show was on its way to being canceled. There has not been any mention of the future of the show. It returned to its usual timeslot on Fridays at 9 p.m. behind new episodes of Charmed season 4 starting March 11. The final season contains 22 episodes and will run for 19 more with the season finale in July. If The CW decides to include reruns of old episodes, this could happen later as well. The only thing we have to look forward to after this is the show starting to stream on Netflix. This will be eight days after the finale is televised.
