Our favorite trio's coming back, one last time.
After almost half a decade of bringing us smart, hip, and exuberant performances, Kat, Jane, and Sutton are finally saying goodbye.
'The Bold Type' is officially coming to an end on the fifth and final season.
The soapy drama series from Freeform aired its first season from June 20, 2017, to September 5, 2017. It follows three friends who work for a women's magazine as they navigate through life, career, and relationship dramas in the big city of New York.
Here's what to expect for season 5.
In January this year, we received bitter-sweet news that 'The Bold Type' season 5 is officially happening but will also be the last for the series.
The announcement was shared through a short video of a zoom call between the cast during their first table reading.
“We’re so, so excited to be back, and we can’t wait to get going,” showrunner and executive producer Wendy Straker Hauser said.
According to TVLine, the series finale will only consist of 6 episodes and will air later this year. We are still waiting for the show to announce when exactly the series finale will release.
The past seasons dropped on different months each year, so it is a little tricky to guess when season 5 will start airing. We will update this page once we get the details.
The show’s final season will see Kat, Jane, and Sutton “on the brink of defining who they really are and how best to leave their mark on the world."
“Their futures are bright, and their love and support for each other will never change,” thy synopsis read.
Season 4's last episode aired on July 16, 2020, lacking two episodes from its 18-episode order because of the coronavirus pandemic. The season 4 ending left our three main characters in a rough situation.
Sutton was trying to drunkenly drown her sorrows after her husband, Richard, left her. Against better judgment, she hooked up with her married ex-boyfriend, complicating the matters even more. Meanwhile, Kat and Eva's relationship are also on the rocks, while Jane is battling with some issues at work.
Since season 5 will be the final run for the series, we are expecting it to wrap up the story for our three protagonists. It will likely delve into the growth of the characters and how the girls will find solutions to their current predicaments.
“The Bold Type is a brand-defining show for Freeform. It’s been refreshing, relatable, and fun to watch Kat, Jane, and Sutton lean on their friendship to navigate the complexities of modern life,” Freeform President Tara Duncan said in a statement via TV Line.
“It’s one of my favorite shows, and I am proud that we are giving the series the sendoff Wendy, the incredible cast and crew, and the beloved fans all deserve.”
Thanks to the short video of the cast's first reading, we've already confirmed that the following cast members are reprising their roles for the season finale.
They are Katie Stevens as Jane Sloan, Aisha Dee as Kat Edison, Meghann Fahy as Sutton Brady-Hunter, Stephen Conrad Moore as Oliver Grayson, Melora Hardin as Jacqueline Carlyle, Matt Ward as Alex Crawford, and Nikohl Boosheri as Adena El-Amin.
We might also see Sam Page's return for his businessman role and Gildart Jackson as Jacqueline’s husband, Ian Carlyle.
Adam Capriolo might also rejoin the cast as Jacqueline’s assistant, Andrew. While Mat Vairo has a good chance of coming back as well to continue the blossoming romance between his character and Jane.
'The Bold Type' has consistently released new seasons in the past 4 years, so we are really counting on season 5 to air this year. There is no official trailer yet as of this writing, but we're confident it will be here very soon. Here is season 4's trailer while waiting.
