The Netflix comedy-drama series premiered on July 3, 2020, and introduced us to five girls who are running their babysitting business.
Season 2 has long been announced, but how soon can we expect to see the series return?
Let us take a look at the latest updates. Here's everything we know about 'The Baby-Sitters Club' Season 2.
'The Baby-Sitters Club' is officially renewed for season 2. Netflix renewed the show back in October 2020.
In December 2020, What's On Netflix reported that the show is eyeing to start filming for season 2 by February. However, it looks like the cast and crew met some hurdles along the way because they were unable to begin filming as previously planned. As of June 2021, there are still no reports of 'The Baby-Sitters Club' getting into production for season 2.
We will edit this space whenever more production updates are available.
Although the show has been renewed last year, there are still no release dates available as of this writing. Season 2's release date will depend on how soon 'The Baby-Sitters Club' enters production.
The show premiered on Netflix on July 3, 2020. Based on the show's current development status, season 2 won't likely be here until next year, 2022.
'The Baby-Sitters Club' follows the adventures of five middle-schoolers as they start a babysitting business in a fictional town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut. The show tackles their friendship dramas, crushes, periods, parental punishments, and other normal issues pre-teens usually encounter as they grow up. Aside from this, the girls also have to deal with a rival babysitting agency, which attempts to sabotage their business.
The series is based on the children's novel series of the same name by Ann M. Martin. However, the series also introduces new storylines that are not from the books, such as Mary Anne babysitting Bailey, a transgender child.
“The Baby-Sitters Club books were so inclusive for the time that they were written, and we wanted to carry that through to the present day,” showrunner Rachel Shukert told Vanity Fair about introducing Bailey in the show.
“Trans kids exist, and they need baby-sitters, and they need to be acknowledged. And to see Mary Anne recognize that and be able to advocate for this girl, and find her own strength in doing that, just felt like a really lovely way of carrying it through into the present day.”
The first season had a happy ending for the BSC members.
The girls eventually become counselors-in-training. Stacey and Laine renew their friendship after Laine clarifies that she wasn’t the one to spread the video of her.
Meanwhile, Mary Anne finally gets the courage to kiss her long-time crush, Logan. The show's ending teased the possibility of Jessi and Mallory becoming part of the BSC in season 2. After Karen goes missing, Jessi and Mallory helped Kristy to look for her.
The second season will continue to chronicle the adventures of the BSC, probably with Jessi and Mallory now becoming part of it. Expect to see the BSC conquer whatever problems get thrown in their way.
Unfortunately, one of BSC's main cast members is saying goodbye for season 2.
In March 2021, Netflix announced that the character of Dawn is being recast. The role was played by Xochitl Gomez in season 1. However, the young actress was cast in 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.' Due to a conflict in schedule, Xochitl decided to say goodbye to 'The Baby-Sitters Club.' Kyndra Sanchez will star as the new Dawn in season 2.
As for the rest of the BSC, you can expect the following cast members to reprise their roles.
Sophie Grace as Kristy Thomas,
Momona Tamada as Claudia Kishi,
Shay Rudolph as Stacey McGill,
Malia Baker as Mary Anne Spier,
Alicia Silverstone is also likely to return as Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, Kristy's mother, with Mark Feuerstein as Watson Brewer, Elizabeth's wealthy fiancé turned husband.
There is no official trailer for 'The Baby-Sitters Club' Season 2 yet. The trailer might not be here until next year. We will update this space once the trailer is available. Here is the season one trailer in the meantime.
