Our favourite on screen family is back again after a long, long wait and this time they are back in an animated form.
Charles Addams' beloved clan of quirky characters have made a return to the big screen and the fans couldn't be happier about this. The trailer in itself boasts a star-studded ensemble that includes Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Finn Wolfhard. The latest footage from the animated movie features the right kind of humor that can be expected from the creepy and kooky Addams Family, which the teaser positions as not exactly the average American family.
'The Addams Family' has been a part of the beloved pop-culture for quite a while now and the all-new animated film will see the Addams family's lives begin to unravel when they face off against a treacherous, greedy TV-show host and simultaneously preparing for heir extended family to arrive for a major celebration. Apart from the above-mentioned stars, the movie is also going to feature two original characters: Alison Janney as reality-TV host Margaux Needler, and Elsie Fisher as her daughter Parker.
The movie is being directed by 'Sausage Party' directors Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon and the director duo has drawn inspiration from the past incarnations of the iconic family. In a statement, Vernon said, "Greg and I have always been a fan of the Addams Family in past versions, so when we set out to make this movie, we were excited to do something new. With that in mind, I drew from the brilliantly original Charles Addams New Yorker cartoons for the look of the film and decided to tell the story of how Gomez and Morticia meet, find their house and start their family. This unique approach is what drew me in to direct the film. The reimagining also extends to the stellar cast we’ve put together who will each bring their own spin to our film that will appeal to longtime fans of the Addams and introduce them to a new generation.”
The animation of the movie is the most striking feature as it leans hard on the single-panel cartoons which were published in The New Yorker for 50 years. Other than that, the art direction is also inspired by the long-running gags with Morticia and Gomez finding their "hideous" and "horrible," yet absolutely perfect, home, Wednesday receiving a cheerful red balloon, with a reference to the murderous clown from 'IT' attached to the scene, and Pugsley blowing things up. The synopsis of the movie reads, "Get ready to snap your fingers! The Addams Family is back on the big screen in the first animated comedy about the kookiest family on the block. Funny, outlandish, and completely iconic, the Addams Family redefines what it means to be a good neighbor."
Some folks are probably already complaining about it since the first teaser image, but I adore that The Addams Family 2019's style is throwing it back old school. pic.twitter.com/8ChCIj0eGt— 🐸 (@narumpeopeu) April 9, 2019
The movie is scheduled to be released on October 11 and other popular film adaptations of the widely loved comic include The Addams Family (1991), Addams Family Values (1993) and Addams Family Reunion (1998).
